Parachute colors
I have just read What Color is Your Parachute? and he never says what the title means.
I have heard of a golden parachute but that's usually a pejorative, describing an executive who gets fired but has a big settlement payoff.
Are there other colors, and what do they mean?

And another thing.
In that book about the mouse complaining about the cheese, is there really cheese?

Golden parachutes are only pejorative in the third person. Their golden parachutes are obscene, but mine--if I had one--would be quite attractive!Ritterskoop wrote: I have heard of a golden parachute but that's usually a pejorative, describing an executive who gets fired but has a big settlement payoff.
I haven't heard of any business connotations for other colored parachutes.

I had always assumed it was an allusion to the idea that different people might have different skills/aspirations/talents; thus, the "color" / nature of their "parachute" / ideal vocation can be different.Ritterskoop wrote:I have just read What Color is Your Parachute? and he never says what the title means.
It might as well have been entitled, "What flavor is your Bundt cake?" or "What aroma is your armpit?"

My bundt cake is anchovy flavored and I have a lovely patchouli aroma in the pits of my arms.

I think the earlier versions had an exercise that isn't in the main edition anymore. Now it is a flower with petals, and you write your strengths and joys and other suchlike on the different petals.
There are two elements to the book: figuring out what you want to do, and figuring out how to get to do it. I have my choices narrowed to teaching or ethics consulting, maybe both, so those parts of the book were less useful for me. But I am sure plenty of people need help figuring out what they love.
From the other parts, though, I learned I should approach a company I want to work for, even if they do not have a position advertised. If they like you enough and you fit what they need but hadn't gotten around to creating, they will create a job for you.
I like this angle.

I am stunned. I mean, I suspected your anchovy dessert fetish, but I had assumed that you were redolent with the perfume of sandalwood and salt, in keeping with your Gandhi-esque demeanor.ulysses5019 wrote:

I'm too lazy to pack my own.
