Which of course has a double meaning, angry and a bit insane, as only cranks write letters to the editor.
James "Play Station Climatology" Hansen has written a op-ed for The State newspaper opposing a coal fired electric generating plant proposed for my county. We wants us to live in energy poverty while he lives it up on Heinz Foundation money. Here we are having one of the coolest Augusts that I can remember, the sunspot cycle is very quiet and he's fantasizing about computer models. I plan on generating substantial carbon outputs later this evening, as I write a letter suggesting that he butt out.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

So he's the one.Dr. Hansen, aka Chicken Little, is director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. His 1988 congressional testimony brought national attention to global warming. This column is his personal opinion.

This is similar to our very own Frank van der Sloot of Melaleuca notoriety and his opposition of any of the wind turbines here in the Idaho Falls area. I did write a letter, as I was peeved with his position of being against them. His stance was that he felt they compromised the pristine views in our area. I worked for Dr. Hansen at GISS. He's a brilliant scientist with the courage to speak his mind even when it annoys the politicians he works for.
BTW, you've all seen the GISS building (near Columbia Univ. in uptown Manhattan). Tom's Restaurant, whose exterior was used on Seinfeld, is on the ground floor of the GISS building.
