RIP Grandma Doris

#1 Post by Bob78164 » Sat Aug 09, 2008 5:10 pm

My Grandma Doris died this morning. She was (in her words) twenty-one plus. I'm pretty sure the plus was about 75 or so. In my words, she was "plenty-nine."

This was expected. Both her health and her acuity had been declining in recent years. Toward the end, she rarely recognized her children, though she retained the wherewithal to fake it with some conviction. She was checked into hospice on Thursday and became unable to take food or water yesterday.

This morning, my mother called and asked the nurse to hold my grandmother's hand and tell her that her daughters Diane, Adrienne, and Lorraine loved her very much. A couple of hours later, she was gone.

The funeral is expected to be Friday. I'll travel to New York for it. --Bob

My condolences, Bob. Grandma Doris sounds like a pistol!

Sorry Bob.

Sounds like a fun person!

Go to NY and talk about her and tell fantastic stories! Sounds like there will be a few.

I'm so sorry, Bob. I've lost all my grandparents, and I know it's hard, even if you've seen it coming for a while. Condolences to all of you.

I'm sorry Bob. I have a grandma Doris as well, she sounds a lot like yours. It sounds like she led a full life and had a lot of people who loved her. It doesn't make it any easier at a time like this, but at least there are plenty of happy memories to reflect on, once you can all see past the grief. My thoughts are with you and your family.
