How NOT to Spend your vacation

#1 Post by ontellen » Fri Aug 01, 2008 8:18 pm

David and I left Monday to spend 2 days with some friends at a cottage they had rented on Lake Huron.

We got there, settled in, started dinner then sat down at the picnic table on the patio to eat. Our friends and I were on one side of the table and David and their grandson (who's almost 7) were on the other side. They got up suddenly and the 3 of us went flying backwards. The guy broke some outdoor lights, my friend Judy scraped her arm but lucky me hit the back of my head on the edge of a cedar deck behind me.

I then experienced 2 new things in my life - my first ambulance ride and the first stitches I've ever had that didn't involve surgery or childbirth. I have 6 stitches in the back of my head which will be removed Tuesday.

I'm so grateful that it wasn't much worse - if I had hit the back of my neck it could have been fatal. I bled all over everything but basically just lost a T-shirt to blood stains. I also lost the beer I was drinking - it was all over me so I smelled like a brewery. I also got to meet Jason the ambulance guy - very caring and drop-dead gorgeous. I think they hire good-looking guys to make you feel better.

Anyway, folks be careful with picnic tables - this one was designed badly and has been burned up.

So you didn't save the beer? I'm glad you're ok.

Oh, Ellen. I'm glad it wasn't worse, but I hope it gets better quickly! That sounds like a great excuse for something stronger than beer!

I think I've seen this this exact scenario on America's Funniest Home Video's minus the ambulance ride and stitches.

I'm glad it wasn't worse and you're OK. Write the company and complain. it might keep someone else from getting hurt.

The lady who owns the cottage called me today. She's very upset that this happened. Apparently she just bought this table from someone local who makes them. She has a call into him right now. You could tell that it wasn't balanced properly. She wanted to send me money - I said no but if I get charged for the ambulance, I may take her up on her offer. Apparently this lady is dying of cancer so I hate to make her life any more difficult.

Thanks everyone for your good wishes - it really could have been much worse.

Thank goodness it was not worse.

Gald you are on the mend and that the owner is being great with you.

Did they have to shave the back of your head?

I am glad you are on the road to recovery. Is your head still sore? How nice that you had some "man-candy" at least on your way to the hospital.

Good heavens! You never think something as innocuous as a freakin' PICNIC TABLE is going to turn on you!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. :D

Yikes! Sorry to hear about your trauma! That's definitely not the way to spend a vacation.

And, I can't believe you were feeling well enough to play FNGD!! You certainly have your priorities in order
