Bo knows Melly's....

#1 Post by mellytu74 » Wed Jul 23, 2008 11:09 am

...arthritis.

I have been diagnosed with avascular necrosis in my left hip -- aka Bo Jackson disease.

Basically, very little or no blood is flowing to the ball of my left hip and it is degenerating.

The rest of my joints are splendid.

About two months or so ago, I was carrying groceries - a small bag in each hand - and fell face down in the LR. Very Buster Keaton pratfall.

My left thigh ached. I did the ice/heat/elevation/rest thing and felt fine. A couple weeks later, I noticed the leg felt a little weak and I started tripping with my right foot, pulling the muscle again and again.

Three weeks ago, we went to a local orthopedic doctor, who is well recommended. He took X-rays, which showed arthritis in my left hip and we scheduled bone scans and an MRI.

I went to a birthday party (afternoon) and wedding (night) on July 12 and was able to dance a little without pain. But, I could not do the Electric Slide or Wagner Walk.

THAT, my friends, is not good.

I had the bone scans and an MRI. It's not pretty.

I have a cortisone shot next Wednesday and will be doing exercises in the pool at the rec center.

Ironically, Boonie & I were going to sign up at the rec center's gym when he got the OK from the physical therapist.

Anyway, we will monitor and try to manage the pain until the inevitable hip replacement surgery.

Dr. M assures me that I have not danced my final Electric Slide.

Ouch.

You be extra careful, Ms. Melly. Arthritis is bad enough, but in the hip you've gotta be extra careful, because of the very falling issue you already brought up.

Sorry to hear this, Melly.

Maybe we can compare left hip x-rays sometime. :|

Melly, this just sucks. Do what you have to do to control it and to get back to electric sliding. But no falling. Falling sucks even worse.
Well, then

War Eagle!! I don't think Bo's initial injury happened at Auburn, but just couldn't pass up a chance to say that.

I am glad you had it checked out. At least you know what the problem is and will be more aware and hopefully, more careful! Take care of yourself.

Crap. Sorry to hear this, melly. Treat yourself well and do what you need to. If Doc says you will slide again, then slide you shall!

Melly-(Stern Look)

Were you walking like Jello on Springs again?

Hope it turns out.

I saw the subject and I thought you were talking about me.

Never mind!

Oh, Miss Melly! I wish I were there, so you could lean on me whenever you needed to walk anywhere and might feel fally downy. (I'm a tall girl, so I would be comfy for you.) I send you warm snuggles. In fact, I authorize Denise to cuddle up to you whenever you think a heating pad might feel good.

Please get better fast!
