Technology question...

Since I have the technology IQ of an infant...I need help.

I have a DVD that someone recorded me off of their DVR. I need to make copies of this DVD.

The DVD works in my computer. However, I do not have a DVD burner (apparently, I thought I did but my computer told me no). I tried to import it into windows movie maker but that didn't work.

I have a DVD-R and hoped to be able to hook my regular dvd player to that in order to make copies. However, when I put the DVD in the regular dvd player, it had an error and spit the dvd out.

I also have the program saved on my DVR but have never successfully set my dvd-r up to be able to record from the dvr.

So, help!!!!!

What is the best...no make that easiest...way for me to get this copied onto multiple dvds???? Is it to buy something for my computer? Any way to hook the computer up to the dvr? Help!! Please!!!

It seems that either the DVD the DVR created is defective or in a format that only the DVR can read.

They really don't want to making copies and it sound like they've ensured this.

If you have the right hardware, you might be able to hook the DVR up to your PC, but I have no idea what you have.

I don't know, I can watch the DVD on my computer and my computer at work (it opens in Windows media player) but I try to watch it on my dvd player and it doesn't work.

I almost certainly don't have any hardware I'd need, I don't even have a dvd burner!!

I have software that allows me to copy CDs...is there comparable software for DVDs?? Even if people could only watch on their computers, at least it's something.

Your DVD player probably doesn't support the format (DVD-R or DVD+R). It's also possible the DVD wasn't "finalized" and your DVD player doesn't like that.

Yes, there is DVD copying software - for non-copy-protected disks.

If you can get whoever made the disc for you to finalize it, it might play in real DVD machines; I'm heartened to hear that a possibly-unfinalized disc actually plays in a computer. I might experiment with that with an unfinalized disc I have (fortunately, I watched it already on my sister's DVD recorder, but we didn't finalize because we thought we were going to put more stuff on it, & then we forgot).

I will have to wait until next week to ask the person who made it. I'm not sure if that is what the issue is, but it has played on 3 separate computers, now I just need one tv!!

Of course an unfinalized DVD will work in a computer. Otherwise the computer would never be able to unfinalize one itself!
