top o' the mornin'®

Yes, it's yours truly, back to brighten your day with badinage and repartee. I'm back from the wilds of the Last Frontier (Alaska, not space) and the Yukon, where I walked in the footsteps of those who sought riches in the goldfields. I'll be posting a travelogue of my experiences, both good and bad.

Glad you're back!! Did you take a cruise-land package?

--dimmzy, who did the cruise-land package in 2006 and drank a cocktail with a human toe in it. Really.

Indeed I did. But I skipped the Sourtoe Cocktail. Several others on the trip did, and have certificates to prove it. It's not that I'm squeamish, I'm a teetotaler.

Welcome back!

Even if you'd rather still be up north. I know I would. 8)

"How are things in the south?"
"Hard."

(Sorry. The mind is wandering into strange and unfrequented places this morning.)
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Ok, then!

Did you go with Holland America? It sounds like it might have been the same tour! We had a lot of fun and good weather, but we didn't see a lot of wildlife... (maybe they were avoiding the tourists).

Certainly the temperatures and humidity levels are better, and there's less pollen and mold (or else the kinds they have up there don't trigger my sinuses). But even with blackout curtains in the hotel rooms it was hard to sleep when it was still daylight outside - "land of the midnight sun" is not just an advertising slogan (and I wouldn't want to be there for the obverse "land of the midday moon").

There are strange things done in the midnight sun...

Ah, yes, I believe I have heard more Robert Service poetry than is good for one person's lifetime.

Hmm. I rather think not!
