Shopping here is the bomb! I went to the the original Starbucks and to the Nordstrom store downtown. OMG, I just had to stop looking. I had to buy a bag to put my loot in to get it home. The suitcase just wouldn't hold it. I only bought one pair of shoes, although I was tempted to get a pair of Stuart Weitzman casual shoes that were on sale for $109.00.

Weather is perfect so far as well.

I forgot about that Nordstrom!!! I'm jealous!!

How long are you there? Are you doing any day trips? We did Mt Rainier and the vineyards and falls when I was out there a few years ago, it was fun.

We're here until friday. Not sure what is on tomorrow's agenda. I just finished soaking my feet. So many hills here!

Ate lunch at the cafe in nordstrom and had a wonderful Chinese chicken salad.

I think I may have to check out the seafood for dinner. I am starting to sound like Sunflower with all this talk about food!

I do love food!! My favorite thing about Seattle was the garlic fries at the baseball stadium! Soooo good!

But we also did a really fun tour, I think it was only about an hour and a half away (they picked us up right at our hotel). It was the Chateau St Michelle and Columbia vineyards (we also stopped at a couple small local ones on the way) and some falls whose name I can't remember (I could look it up and find it pretty easily). They did a picnic lunch on the grounds of the Chateau St Michelle vineyard, which was quite nice. And there wasn't too much walking!

I think this was it...although it says Silver Lake winery (which I've never heard of) instead of Columbia. Which is weird, because Columbia is literally across the street from Chateau St Michelle. Maybe they had a problem accomodating groups or something, I'm not sure.

Don't get too excited about the "chocolate factory", it's a one room chocolate/candy shop, with a dirty window in back where you can watch chocolate being made! It's cute and it's a quick stop but they make it sound better than it is.

Looks absolutely fabulous to me. Want to confirm that for sure and what time tomorrow when you see how work is going?

It tried to rain here, but there were only a few drops. Since I'm by myself this evening, I walked to the corner and at at Crow. It's a converted warehouse and doesn't look like much from the outside. It was really good.
I sat at the Chef Table, which is a bar where you can watch the chef's cook. I wanted one of everything by the time I left.

Wow, what a day! Remember, you can always mail things back if necessary. (evil grin)

When Kate visited us in AK, one of the things we did was to go shopping at the Nordstrom there. Since I haven't been to any other Nordstroms, I didn't really have any way to compare various stores. She had a terrible experience while shopping. She ended up writing a letter and getting a nice apology from the store. In my opinion, the store personnel acted very snooty to her. She promised me that the staff in Seattle were not that way at all.

I'm just happy to be back where there is a Dillards.

Dillards is our nicest store as well.

I order from Nordstrom all the time, but going to the store is a real treat for me. Of course, we went into Macy's as well. Great sale going on there too. Yikes!

My wife was asking me just the other day what there would be to do in Seattle. We'll be going in October for a bi-annual national conference thing related to a board that I'm on. Last time, we met in Nashville, and stayed at the Grand Old Opre Resort (or complex or whatever). There was plenty to do in Nashville.

I've never spent a night in Seattle. Stopped there at the airport going to and coming back from Alaska in '71, and drove from there to Walla Walla and back in '03 -- the first year of "Parents' Weekend." What a great drive! (Not quite great enough to keep me from just flying closer to Walla Walla the next three years, though.)

So, I'll be interested in the full report, and any other suggestions by anyone else.

There is so much to do here that the couple of days I have won' even scratch the surface,

They have a great aquarium, nice cruises on the harbor, The Museum of Flight, a zoo, museums, of course the Space Needle. Pike Place Market on the harbor and shopping!

There is lots of other stuff I am sure.

Start planning early, you will have a great time.

Buy all of the Seattle Sonics stuff that you can, before the owner "steals" the team off to Oklahoma City today. (Well, maybe he will wait until tomorrow.)

Pike Place Market is worth a trip, if only to go to the fish market and watch them toss the fish around. Literally. They put on quite a show.

Sis used to have a frozen yogurt place just up the street from the main entrance to the central market. The first frozen yogurt store in the Northwest, in fact. She and her partner sold it years ago, but I still have her business card and a photo of her in a "yogurt cone" costume, walking around the area to advertise the place.

According to what I read, the Seattle Super Sonics name and logo will continue to "live" in Seattle until the NBA can find some other disgruntled owner to move his team to Seattle.

The current Seattle owner will make duplicates of the championship banners and trophies- the originals go to OKC, the copies stay in Seattle.

Of course I love Nordstrom, and I love Dillard's. And I keep thinking how amusing it is that Nordstrom just used to be that really nice local department store in the Seattle area when I was living in Everett (high school) and Seattle (UW) from 1967-74. It wasn't the iconic thing it is now. What a hoot.

We also had the Bon, short for The Bon Marche.

We are in our hotel room resting. We walked to the sci-fi museum, the glass blowing shop and pike market.

My legs feel like someone has been beating me!

Dinner with TKO and the ballgame is next on the agenda.

Sunflower, you probably went to Snoqualmie Falls. My sister lives down the street from the falls. I was born and raised in Tacoma, WA (40 minutes south of Seattle) on the water and lived in Seattle for 4 years before moving to LA. I will move back there some day. It is the most beautiful place to me and all of my family is still up there.

Kay, Snoqualmie Falls are very pretty. Did you go to the Woodland Park zoo? Great place. Oh, I am realizing you are leaving there tomorrow, so I guess I can stop thinking of places to go.

Glad you got to see the Emerald City and that you had a nice time.

My travel companions had to leave at 4:30AM for an ungodly early flight, so we went to bed as soon as we got back from the game and I didn't have a chance to report back. We had a lovely dinner with TKO and a nice visit catching up.

We're 3 for 3 for the visiting baseball team winning the game. Final score was 8-2 Tigers, although the Mariners scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th. It was a beautiful night and we had a good time.

I head back home in a couple of hours. Can only hope southbound traffic on I-85 outside of Atlanta will be driver friendly.
