Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader

#1 Post by danielh41 » Tue Jul 01, 2008 9:13 pm

I answered a Craig's List ad yesterday, calling for contestants for a "top rated prime time trivia game show." The name of the show was not used in the post. They were looking for specific things, and one of those was people with unusual jobs. That was pretty much the only thing I could use, so I told them about my nude modeling job in my response.

I got a call today from someone from "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader," inviting me to an audition in Dallas this Saturday. Has anyone here ever tried out for this show? If so, how do they run their road auditions?

I don't think we've had anyone audition to be a contestant and this is the first we've heard about road auditions.

You've seen the show. They're looking for "Price is Right" contestants, not trivia experts.

Fifth Grader, nice show. It's so much easier to get to 25,000 dollars on that show than it is on Millionaire. Especially lately. Keep us apprised if you can.

I have auditioned for this show.

The audition test I took is very unlike the questions they ask on the show. It was mostly a series of basic logic questions (e.g. "If some Hags are Higs, and all Higs are Hugs, then which of the following statements is true?" There was a bit of general trivia as well.

I think they are mostly looking for TV-friendly personalities and contestants who can appear very excited. I didn't stand a chance.

Well, you must have been drinking too much absinthe!

Absolutely! And don't just stand in one place; run and jump around a lot, working the whole stage! There is no limit to "over the top" on this show.

And maybe you need to sandbag the test a little. I'm just saying...

And if you do get on the show and this year's fifth graders are still there, save Nathan for the high level questions, for goodness sake! 8)

Listen to Marley. He is the bored expert in all things AYSTATG.
And as far as the good doctor is concerned, maybe he should put some of that energy from his Wii Rock Band into his audition schtick instead of imbibing in that wormwood.

The lady who called from the show yesterday did say that I would be getting an e-mail with an invitation to the audition. I would have to print that out and bring it with me in order to get in. I have yet to receive that e-mail....

The e-mail came, so I'm set for this Saturday. The coach of my son's baseball team was all smiles and all enthusiasm during this past season. I may try to emulate his mannerisms...
