Wedding Blog: BD**2 - 44
GW is home today baking/cooking/cleaning for the shower. I have gotten the "we need to clean seriously tonight or the house won't be ready; it may still not be ready" speech. I predict no restful moments until people arrive on Sunday.
Got a call from the florist last night. She is all excited about the wedding, almost, it seems, more than we are at the moment. She went out with her father to some forested area, pointed out birch trees, and had him cut down/off poles for the chuppah she's planning to build for BD. Seems a bit above and beyond, but what the heck, it beats having four shtarkahs holding up each corner of the thing. As BD put it when informed of this more traditional chuppah, "Aahhhh, no."
I probably will be allowed to go to a movie once people start arriving for the shower and I pick up the ice cream pizza. I'm torn among Indiana Jones, the Hulk, or Wall-E. No one else will want to see the Hulk movie. OTOH, I haven't seen a Pixar flick on a full movie screen since Toy Story. And Indy won't be around by the time GW is willing to spend time at a movie again. Can't even lure her there with the promise of popcorn.

Tonight is "sit down and work up a wedding budget".
Think it will work? I am already thinking no matter what the budget, we're gonna go over
Guess I need to find out what the consequences will be if that happens.
I really need to figure out how to stay in budget.

I'm not familiar with this word and google didn't help.gsabc wrote:Seems a bit above and beyond, but what the heck, it beats having four shtarkahs holding up each corner of the thing. As BD put it when informed of this more traditional chuppah, "Aahhhh, no."
Is my intuition that it's something of a phallic symbol correct?

My comic book background tells me that a shtarkah is a strong man.MarleysGh0st wrote:I'm not familiar with this word and google didn't help.gsabc wrote:Seems a bit above and beyond, but what the heck, it beats having four shtarkahs holding up each corner of the thing. Here's what to do. Think of a number between one and nine. Write it down. Write nine zeros after the first number. Follow that with a decimal point and two more zeros. That should give you a round number to cover most of the wedding expenses.kayrharris wrote:Tonight is "sit down and work up a wedding budget".

Have I ever told you that I'm a professional wedding budget planner? I will send you a bill for my services, so you can get used to that sort of thing.

Yes. Think of Siegfried's cohort in the original "Get Smart". It's Yiddish, and a typical Mel Brooks joke.Appa23 wrote:My comic book background tells me that a shtarkah is a strong man.MarleysGh0st wrote:I'm not familiar with this word and google didn't help.gsabc wrote:Seems a bit above and beyond, but what the heck, it beats having four shtarkahs holding up each corner of the thing.
