I don't know if anyone else uses Creative Memories Albums, but if you do, here is a public service message for you.
Creative Memories is introducing True 12 x 12 albums. Along with the albums there will be True 12 x 12 pages and True 12x12 protectors. What this means is that you will no longer have to cut down the cute 12x12 paper that you find in scrapbooking stores to use on Creative Memories pages.
I personally have a stockpile of albums in the old size, which is not quite 12 x12. Each person in my family has their own color of album, plus we have family albums. When specific colors retired, I stockpiled them for future use.
Since the pages, and page protectors will not longer be available in the old size, I am doing an inventory of my albums, pages and protectors today to make sure that I have enough to fill my albums as I scrapbook through the years.
By the way, old pages and protectors will fit in the new albums, but old pages and protectors will not work with the new albums.
Back to organizing.

Luckily, this is one craft I have not started. I did start doing a couple of beaded necklaces recently though.
Yeah, just what I need, another craft!
But I look at some of the prices of the jewelry in the catalogues and say 'I could make that for less than 25% of what that is being sold for' and then it is worth it.
I think Daughter1111 would get into scrapbooking. Maybe I will see if she would like to get started on the piles of photos I have.

I am okay about both of those things.
Like when I write a thing down, I remember it better. I bet when PSM arranges an item in a scrapbook, it stays with her more solidly.
Or not. I have no idea. But I am pretty sure that our physical interaction with a thing makes it more meaningful.

I am a bare-bones scrapbooker. I "wallpaper" a page with paper and slap on some photos or certificates. I have very little left from my childhood, so it's been important to me that the girls have photos, certificates, and report cards as well as pictures and stories from school. Each daughter has her own School Album and if I ever get to it, I am going to sort through the baby pictures and start making albums with baby pictures. Maddie also has a Game Show Album and a Play Album and when Emma starts developing more activities, I will make more special albums for her.
Last year, I challenged myself to do one page a day to catch up. I got about 150 pages done and stopped because of Sebastian's death. (I started crying every time I saw a picture of him.)
January 1, 2008, I made myself the same challenge and have done no scrapbooking all year. I am spending this week organizing and hope that I will be able to really get a lot done this summer. It's only day number 169 of the year, so I have 197 days to catch up!

I've been invited to a Creative Memories party. I think I'll go. The last time I went to a "BUY something" party organized by this person (she's my cousin), I bought some Tupperware that I still cherish.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:I don't know if anyone else uses Creative Memories Albums, but if you do, here is a public service message for you.
Besides, she's probably the best cook in the family after Mom passed on, and I'm confident that she will have something just as good as or better treatswise than the cherry pie that PSM dint have any of the other night . . .

The girls like looking at their school albums from when they were younger. The girls also get letters from their teachers that I save in the scrapbooks. Maddie's PE teacher just sent her a note that said that she has the "potential to go far and do whatever with your life as you see fit."Ritterskoop wrote:My sense is that it is a way of making your memories tangible.peacock2121 wrote:I don't get scrapbooking.

The teacher is very strict, so the note really touched Maddie. That's the type of thing that needs to be saved, IMHO.

And as to why I think I'll go -- I need help getting my pics and other memorabilia into some sort of order. Someone else could go through and toss my ticket stubs to the 1992 Broncos-Oilers playoff game...

They will fit but they won't work? I don't think any of albums are Creative Memories anyway, just a bunch of effluvia.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:By the way, old pages and protectors will fit in the new albums, but old pages and protectors will not work with the new albums.

I have done some small scrapbooks and am in the process of bigger scrapbooks.
The small ones were for friends -- I'd found duplicates of pictures and put them together in small, autograph book-sized books, mounting them on some wonderful decoupage paper.
The bigger ones are dedicated to my family on both sides. They are the standard 12 x 12 books. I am scanning old familiy pictures and putting them together.
TLAF has told me some wonderful stories and we have great stories about THFD's mom & dad. So, the journaling comes easily.
It's a work in progress that goes hand-in-hand with the preservation of family photos on disk.

I'm off tomorrow for my once a month Creative Memories scrapbooking group and I was just figuring out tonight how many of the old pages and page protectors I need for the albums I'm already working on.
Right now I have CM ones with our trip to Puerto Vallarta this Feb., my grandson Parker, our 25th Anniversary and a new one I haven't used yet so I'm trying to figure out the damn math for all of this.
I really enjoy scrapbooking and use it to make many gifts for special occasions. My niece's daughter just had her 1st communion and their son was just baptized so that covered the gifts. I still think a scrapbook is better than some knick knack that will sit and collect dust.
We have a really great group that meets every month at the home of a CM rep and we won't miss it if we can help it.

Ellie, I'm all in awe of you actually having a scrapbook group! I'd never get anything done because I'd be too busy organizing everybody else's stuff (I think I do that to put off the actual scrapbooking. ha!), but I can only imagine that the rep has every little gadget and tool known to man. I lust after those Cricut machines.ontellen wrote:I'm off tomorrow for my once a month Creative Memories scrapbooking group and I was just figuring out tonight how many of the old pages and page protectors I need for the albums I'm already working on.

You need to do a photobucket account and put up some of your pages so I can admire them.

I had a Scrapbooking group. I'm with Ellen - they make fantabulous gifts. I have a blast making them, too.
The other things I like to do, in place of an actual scrapbook, are paint cans and shadow boxes.
The Sears Hardware in Rio Grande, NJ, was going out of business a couple years ago. They had unused empty gallon paint cans for a nickle each. I bought a couple dozen, not knowing what I was going to do with them.
I told Boonie I could do some "craft something" with them. Boonie just looked at me.
I've made five paint cans so far - a hostess gift, three Christmas gifts and a retirement gift - and two shadow boxes, for my Uncle Gar & Aunt Lucy, my godparents.
Lots of non-toxic sealant to finish off the cans.
My cousin (the hostess) uses hers in the kitchen. One of the Christmas recipients uses hers for her knitting needles and the other two use theirs on their desks.
The retiree recipient was supposed to use them for his peanut shells since he said he would be "an old man who's going to do nothing in retirement but sit around and eat peanuts," which is not true at all.
He cried when he got the gift, he was so touched. That made me very happy.

I forgot to mention it but thanks for the heads up on this.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:I don't know if anyone else uses Creative Memories Albums, but if you do, here is a public service message for you.
Since I am reorganizing all of my craft things as we get the new craft room/office ready, I need to take inventory of my albums, pages, and protectors.
If you hadn't posted this, it might have gone right past me. Then, later, if I needed something, I wouldn't be able to get it and have no idea why.
I am pretty sure I only have two CM albums but they are still not completely planned so I want to make sure I have enough old-style pages & protectors to do the job I want.
I did that with one of the older, bigger Pioneer books (12 x 15? Could that be right?) and was glad I did because it expanded far past the original scope and you just can't find that size anymore.

Photobucket lets you do picture albums and people can look at them individually or do slideshows (like Kay did on her Home Beautiful tour thingie a while back).ontellen wrote:Fanny, I would love to do a photobucket account if I even knew what it was.

You can also use it to have a URL to put a picture in a message. I can't give you an example here because I don't actually have a photobucket account myself, but I like to look at other people's. When it's not freezing on me, which it's been doing lately.
If webshots or shutterfly is still around, but I think they are similar.
I'm not sure if Picasa would accomplish the same thing, I know you can organize your photos there, but I'm not sure you can have URLs to show pictures in messages or let other people view the album.
