Can previous contestants try out for the 3 generations shows

#1 Post by geoffil » Sun Jun 15, 2008 9:18 am

Does anyone know if previous contestants are allowed to be team members for the 3 generations shows? Even so, convincing grandma or grandpa to be on the show is a lot harder than I thought. Grandpa doesn't want to stand in line and Grandma is afraid of not knowing any of the answers. Arghhh! Grandma has nothing to wear, thinks she won't pass the test, worries about traveling to New York, etc.
I thought when you get older you don't worry about that anymore.

I had assumed that previous contestants would not be eligible. If they are, I would round up my older son (who was deservedly on my PAF list) and his brilliant teen-aged son and head for the nearest audition, even if "near" had to be measured in thousands of miles. Since I would be the Grandma in this scenario, your difficulties would not exist for us.

I just found this in the Official Rules:

"Contestants who play the Game on the Program are not eligible to play the Game again; provided, however, Game Sponsor reserves the right to invite back any Network Hot Seat Contestant(s) or any Contestant(s) who played the Game on the Program for specialty episodes of the Program at Game Sponsor's sole discretion."

I would interpret this to mean that if you came up with a three-generation team that the APs loved, they can invoke this paragraph to let you play again.

Work on Grandma, Geoffil!

I tried grandpa, but he is getting all new teeth, crowns, dentures and thinks he won't be ready for an audition next month. The teeth will be done by then, but according to him it is something to worry about. Something so easy, is turning out to be so hard. I asked Grandma to keep an open mind and have fun and not worry. Now it is flying that is an issue. I thought she would say yes in an instant, but she is thinking of excuse after excuse.

Any suggestions for Grandma?

Thanks for posting about this.

We didn't know that kids could audition for the three generations show. I think that Maddie, Jeff and his dad might do a road trip.

No she hasn't had the pleasure of meeting PSM's mom. Do they analyze things the same way?

Will we get to hear about the new tricks (once you recover, of course)??

I think this is to provide for special editions like Llamarama, where all the contestants have been on previously. I don't think they'd use this loophole for an individual contestant on a different kind of theme week.

Sorry about that.

No, I agree. I got my chance, definitely! Plus no offense to my family but this particular special certainly isn't happening for me!

I was just agreeing and saying that if they don't call and invite you if you've already been on, I think it's safe to assume the answer is "no".

Looks like this calls for an interpretation from one of our official bored/board
attorneys.

I'm not an attorney, but my interpretation is that anyone can try out, including Canadians, ABC employees, and past winners. They just can't be contestants on the show. But it doesn't hurt to ask. If you audition and they like your team of three, they just might reconsider their policy. But I wouldn't travel thousands of miles to New York with only that slim hope.

A bunch of us from Grand Slam had a notion to show up together at a WWTBAM audition last year, but there weren't any scheduled while we were in town. It would have been fun just to take the test and see if they recognized anyone.
