RIP Eliot Asinof

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Sun Jun 15, 2008 5:46 am

This happened Tuesday but hadn't been noted widely.

Asinof was a longtime New York writer best known for his book Eight Men Out about the Chicago Black Sox scandal, which was made into a movie directed by John Sayles. Another book he wrote was made into the movie Breakout with Charles Bronson.

Age 88.

Eight Men Out is my favorite baseball movie. I love how the actors were cast for their athletic ability and how Ron Santo helped John Cusack with the third base moves.

When the book came out, I read about how much research he did. Painstaking labor of love and it showed in the quality.
