An eBay question

#1 Post by KillerTomato » Wed Jun 04, 2008 7:47 pm

I recently bought my first item on eBay (a new receiver, since my $50 -- really! -- surround-sound system finally bit the dust after 3 years). I did a "Buy It Now" thing, since the price was right (well below retail, and it is a new item). It was promptly and efficiently shipped. It's in the exact condition that was advertised (perfect, for the record). It contained all of the stuff it was supposed to....except for one thing:

There was a French and Spanish user manual, but no English one. Frankly, this wasn't a real problem, since I was able to download an English manual from the company's website in about 2 minutes.

This seller has an excellent rating....nearly perfect, as far as I can see. So my question is this: should I mention the missing manual in my feedback? Or, since it wasn't really a problem, should I let it go, since I'm 99.99999% pleased with the product and the seller's service?

I think if anything you should contact the seller first and see their reaction...give them a chance to explain it and/or resolve it. I know how much negative feedback can hurt a seller, so I do it ONLY if something comes totally damaged, or if I try to work things out with a seller and they are a total jerk about it. Just my 2 cents...

Not necessary.

I should have mentioned that I did exactly this. The seller apologized, and said he should have noticed that the English manual was missing, but I told him there was no need for any other action, since I already downloaded the thing.

I personally see little reason to mention this in my feedback, but I'm not sure if this is a systemic problem or not, so I thought I'd ask the experts!

Since you were able to download the manual, I would fuggidaboutit. It's quite possible that if you had contacted the seller, he would have offered to mail you one immediately by priority mail or otherwise gotten the information to you ASAP. If the item was new and in a factory-sealed box, it's possible that the manual you wanted was omitted accidentally by the manufacturer, and the seller never knew it wasn't there.

As a seller, I really appreciate being ablt to try to fix things, if something goes wrong. Sometimes we do slip up, being human and all. If you are still happy, then just say Happy with item, good shipping and communication. Don't mention the missing manual if it's not that big a deal to you. He's probably tearing through his house looking for it too.
