I forgot to note that clearly we do a better job teaching geography in Nebraska, as even our 11 year-olds know more than 13 year-olds from other states.
Now, I have to decide whether my son needs to focus on the spelling bee or geography bee. Maybe both.
[mindless memorization seems to be more of his thing, right now.]
BTW, as training for the National Spelling Bee, he has his last spelling test of the year today. He is trying to continue his streak of never misspelling a word on a test or challenge from a teacher.
