I wonder if there are more blind people or atheists using money in the U.S.
I would say they are one and the same! And those blind nonbelievers better all send me a sizable amount of paper with "In God We Trust" on it or no stupid court decision will be able to save them from God's wrath!

Ok, so what's the problem????
Don't we already make a one dollar coin????
Just make $5's, $10's, $20's, $50's, and, $100 coins. Put a different famous blind persons face on each coin, make them different sizes, and the problem is solved. It's got to cheaper than trying to change the paper money, and it honors blind people at the same time.
What's the big deal???

I haven't read the decision (which I imagine is available on the D.C. Circuit's Web site), but I heard a brief report on the radio. As I understand it, the Court's reasoning was that since the Treasury was redesigning paper money anyway, there was no reason they couldn't do so in a way that permits the blind independence on this issue, just as Europe has done. --Bobfantine33 wrote:To me, this seems like an insult against blind people. There has always been a fairly simple system used: Singles remain flat, fives are folded in half and 20s are folded lengthwise.
So are they now saying that the blind have recently become too stupid to keep this straight?
For the smart ass who is sure to ask "what about a hundy?", it gets folded in half twice and tucked into the secret compartment that sighted people use for condoms.
"Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear." Thomas Jefferson

Back to the days of doubloons and pieces-of-eight, eh? That would require manufacturers to put heavy duty fabric and thread in pockets. OTOH it would certainly make counterfeiting a little more difficult.rayxtwo wrote:Ok, so what's the problem????

It's like going to the store and being offered paper pr plastic. Make both kinds of money and give people an option of which they want. As for the pants pockets, just put the coins in old Crown Royal bags and carry them around

Here's my .02 cent's worth on this topic.
The issue of accessible currency has been around for a number of years. I think it's a good idea. The American Council of the Blind, of which I'm a member, has supported this for a long time.
T thought that since the Treasury Department was part of the US gevernment, they would be required to comply with the ADA. Making paper money accessible would help many people. It would help blind people to be able to participate independently in our consumer-driven economy.
Another big issue, which the Michigan chapter of ACB discussed at our convention last fall, is hybrid cars and the fact that they don't make any discernible sound. You can't tell if a hybrid car is approaching you-and this could be dangerous.
OK, let's get back to game shows now for a moment. As you know, I am in favor of BAM doing an online test, like J! does. This would make the tests more accessible to more potential contestants. I'm still trying to figure out how Eddie Timanus managed to TAKE the BAM test (we all know he passed it-he was on the show!).

I'm just a game show nerd.
