The Boy (as BD calls him) is gone, the chipper is gone, the pile of wood chips is moved under bushes and across the landscape and we are burned out.
BD drove FSIL to the airport bright and way too early this AM. GW and I stayed up, GW to do laundry while I worked on moving the chip pile. I was so mind-numb; BD returned while I was in the back yard. I came out to the front (where the chip pile was), stared at her car, and couldn't figure out how she had gotten to the airport without her car. Took me three minutes to figure out "Oh. She must be back already."
Next major (and expensive) task is the front stairs. Fairly standard brick stairs, concrete top platform, 18 years old. Been falling apart for the last 12. Needs replacing altogether now, and before the planned shower. First quote was a bit more than we anticipated, but may be in the right range. We've been out of the market for a while, and a good portion of the increase has probably occurred in the recent oil price run-up. We'll see what the rest come in at. Gotta be done, so suck it up and try to write the check without too much sobbing.
