Trip to New York

#1 Post by Bob78164 » Fri May 16, 2008 4:48 pm

It appears pretty likely I'll be in New York, probably next week. But not, alas, for a happy reason.

Our doctors tell us my grandmother has more lives than a cat. My little brother describes her as having more fight than a battalion of marines. But this battle can have only one conclusion, and it appears to be rapidly approaching.

My grandmother is conscious and (generally) lucid but not comfortable. Most of my family is with her. The DNR order has been signed and the entire family is on board. She reached her 96th birthday last month, but it doesn't look like she'll ever get home to hear the birthday message I left on her machine.

Please join me in hoping for a comfortable passing. And please keep her older sister in your thoughts as well. --Bob

Here's hoping that your grandmother's remaining time is very peaceful.

I hope the doctors can keep her comfortable in the time she has left, Bob.

I am happy that she lived such a long life, but sorry you have to go through this now.

Sounds like she has had a life worth celebrating. May God Bless her and her family.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Best wishes, Bob. Hope they keep her pain free.

Hoping that her discomfort is minimal and her remaining days are peaceful.

I'll keep your grandma in my thoughts and prayers. My own grandma was like that in her last days three years ago at age 95+.

Not the best of circumstances for travel, that's for sure. I'm very sorry, but hope she does have comfort and peace in her last days. Surrounded by family will mean a lot to her.

On the other hand, your 96 year old grandmother has an older sister? I'm impressed! Great genes, Bob.

Have a safe trip and take care.
