’19 Kids and Counting’ star Joseph Duggar accused of molesting 9-year-old girl

Joseph Duggar, who starred on the TLC reality show, “19 Kids and Counting,” has been arrested over allegations that he molested a 9-year-old girl six years ago during a vacation in Florida, according to authorities.

Duggar was charged with lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim less than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior conducted by a person 18 years or older, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. He was taken into custody in Arkansas on Wednesday evening, and he is currently awaiting extradition to Bay County.

The girl, who is now 14, reported the sexual assault on Wednesday to authorities in Tontitow, according to a statement from the local police department. She said she was on vacation in 2020 with her family in Panama City Beach when Duggar touched her inappropriately on several occasions. At one point, Duggar, in his late 20s at the time, “asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket,” the Bay County Sheriff’s Office said.

“During this time, Duggar manipulated the victim’s underwear and grazed her genitals. Duggar would also continue to rub his hands on her thighs,” the statement continued.

The girl told investigators that Duggar “eventually apologized for his actions and the incidents stopped after the apology,” authorities said.

Duggar, now 31, was arrested after the victim participated in a forensic interview regarding her report of the prior sexual abuse. Her father also confronted the former reality star, who “allegedly admitted his actions to the father and Tontitown detectives,” according to authorities.

From 2008 to 2015, Duggar starred alongside his siblings and parents on “19 Kids and Counting,” a reality show chronicling the lives of the members of their conservative family in Arkansas. It ran for more than 200 episodes over the course of 10 seasons.

TLC canceled the series in 2015 after the eldest Duggar child, Josh, was accused of molesting several girls when he was a teenager. He was never criminally charged, though it was previously reported four of the five girls he abused were his younger sisters.

Josh also later admitted to using Ashley Madison to have an extramarital affair and later revealed he was participated in rehab for pornography addiction.

In December 2021, he was found guilty of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material and he was sentenced the following year to serve 12 and a half years in prison. He remains behind bars at FCI Seagoville in Texas and is slated for release in August 2032.

LOS ANGELES, California — The wife of former reality TV personality Joseph Duggar has been charged with multiple counts of child endangerment in Arkansas following an investigation involving minors.

Kendra Duggar, 27, was arrested and booked into the Washington County Detention Center before being released on bond. She is expected to appear in court in the coming weeks.

Joseph Duggar, who appeared on TLC’s reality series “19 Kids and Counting” and its spinoff “Counting On,” was taken into custody days earlier in a separate case, authorities said.

Authorities said the charges against Kendra Duggar stem from accusations of conduct that placed children at risk, though investigators have released limited details due to the involvement of minors.

In the separate case, Joseph Duggar is accused of sexually abusing a child during a 2020 trip to Florida. Authorities said the reported victim was under the age of 10 at the time.

Investigators said Duggar has waived extradition and is expected to face charges in Florida related to the accusations.

Officials have indicated that the charges filed against Kendra Duggar are tied to the Arkansas investigation and are not directly connected with the reported abuse case in Florida.

A California jury today found in favor of Donna Motsinger, a woman who sued Bill Cosby, alleging she was assaulted by Cosby in 1972. The jury awarded Motsinger $19.25 million in damages. Motsinger said that Cosby drugged her wine and then raped her after he invited her to one of his comedy shows. Motsinger worked at a Los Angeles nightclub at the time where Cosby was a frequent customer. He invited her to his show and picked her up in a limo. After the assault, Motsinger woke up back at her home, nearly naked. Punitive damages have not yet been assessed. Cosby has denied the charges and says he will appeal the verdict.

I had been wondering if the large number of Democrats running in this election might result in the two major Republicans in the race finishing in the top two positions and qualifying for the general election as a result. I guess today's developments pretty much negates that possibility.

A former UCLA campus gynecologist whose conviction on sex-related charges involving two women was reversed by an appeals court in February pleaded guilty Tuesday to 13 felony counts involving five women.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo immediately sentenced James Mason Heaps to 11 years in prison — the same term he was serving before his October 2022 conviction was overturned.

The 69-year-old former doctor was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Comedian Russell Brand admitted sleeping with a girl barely half his age in a sit-down with the right-wing podcaster Megyn Kelly.

The 50-year-old born-again Christian is set to stand trial for rape and sexual assault in October on seven charges relating to incidents involving seven different women that took place between 1999 and 2009. He has denied all charges.

Once a left-wing comic, Brand has since reinvented himself as a darling of the Right in the U.S., attending the Republican National Convention in 2024, hanging out with RFK Jr., and being awarded a ‘Global Defender of Freedom’ award at Mar-a-Lago.

Speaking to Kelly on Wednesday to promote a new book, Brand addressed allegations that he slept with a 16-year-old when he was 30.

After thanking Kelly for giving him the “grace to address” her anger, Brand went on to confirm that he had, in fact, slept with the 16-year-old, telling her, “The plain fact of it is that in Europe and in the United Kingdom, where I’m from, the age of consent is 16, and I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30.”

He continued, “But when I was 30, I was a very different person. I was a lot younger, and I was an immature 30-year-old.”

The woman’s decision to speak to the Sunday Times in 2023 prompted calls for age-of-consent laws in the U.K. to be reassessed. In addition, the BBC promised to investigate whether Brand had used its taxis to transport the 16-year-old around London.

Brand went on to acknowledge that the encounter was inherently exploitative in nature, telling Kelly, “Consensual sex, actually, with a variety of people when there is a strong power differential, because there is when you’re a famous man that has the ability to attract women that I had at that time, I think involves exploitation. I think it is exploitative.”

“I recognize that my sexual conduct in the past was selfish and I did not apply enough consideration, barely any, I suppose, really, to how that sex was affecting other people,” he added.

Kelly also asked Brand about the accusations leveled against his ex-wife, pop star Katy Perry, by Australian actor Ruby Rose. Rose, 40, alleged that Perry, 41, sexually assaulted her in a nightclub in Melbourne.

Perry has denied the accusations, with her representative telling Variety in a statement, “The allegations being circulated on social media by Ruby Rose about Katy Perry are not only categorically false, they are dangerous reckless lies. Ms. Rose has a well-documented history of making serious public allegations on social media against various individuals, claims that have repeatedly been denied by those named.”

After acknowledging that he is no longer in contact with Perry but does continue to speak to her parents, Keith and Mary, whom he described as “good Christian folks,” Brand commented on Rose’s allegations, telling Kelly that he couldn’t see where a crime had been committed.

“This is probably the old school man in me,” Brand said, “I don’t even hear the crime there.”

“What happened? I can’t even hear where it is. Someone would have to poke me with a stick,” he continued, pretending to poke Kelly with a stick and adding, “There, that’s the bit that was a crime!”

While he was initially facing charges on five counts of rape, sexual assault and indecent exposure relating to incidents involving four separate women that took place between 1999 and 2005, in December the star was charged with an additional count of rape and sexual assault for incidents involving two more women that took place in 2009.

His trial, initially set to start in June, has been delayed until October. Brand has denied all charges and any wrongdoing.

Brand, who has long claimed to suffer from a sex addiction, has also been accused of sexual harassment by other stars, with Australian singer Dannii Minogue calling him “a bit of a vile predator” following an incident on his television show in 2006.

“I certainly don’t think he has cured his sex addiction,” she added.
