The aquarium is the best in the country.

I haven't been there since 2006, so I don't know the restaurants now. We ate at The Sardine Factory, and Google says it's still there.

Thanks-I put Sardine Factory in the hopper with nmy other choice-The Old Fisherman's Grotto.

While there are a lot of seafood choices in the area-I kept it simple and after due consideration-we have a reservation at Fisherman's Grotto. Sardine Factory might still cause me to change my mind because they have Grilled Octopus and I have been hankering to try that-but Grotto seems a little more reasonable and my seafood hating wife might be happier there.

We will be going there after a couple of days in the Yosemite area and will spend one night in Monterey (not a cheap town to stay in)-we will try and get to aquarium either when we get there-or the next morning-from there we go to Santa Maria for some tri-tip and one night-then across to Vegas for one night and then home.

My highlight of the trip will be Highway 50 (The Loneliest Road) across the middle of Nevada.

Be sure to stop for a while to see the sights in the Great Basin National Park.

N.B. We stayed in Monterey when I took most of my family on a grand tour of the West, paid for with my BAM winnings; I spent freely.

We went there in June of 2020. The aquarium was closed due to Covid, as were many restaurants, but a few were open for sidewalk/outdoor seating. I don't recall which ones we ate at.

Do make your way down to Big Sur, if you have time. The drive itself is worth it even if you don't get out and hike. The Bixby Bridge is pretty awesome to see and walk around for the views.

California Highway 1 reopened in January, so you're in luck.

Yep-went to Great Basin on a 2020 tour of that part of the west-along with a lot of the utah parks-planned to visit the north Rim of the Grand Canyon-but fires.

I am reading some lay books on the geology of the west as we will be driving a lot of it.
