To Kill a Mockingbird was his first movie. Not a bad start.

So good in so many movies. The Great Santini was a tour de force performance.

RIP my Jan 5 birthday buddy.

As soon as the news hit, I thought, "Jeopardy Curse!" Boo Radley was the FJ - and a triple stumper - last Wednesday. I didn't realize he was 95.

He was in episodes of some of my favorite shows growing up. It would be nice to be able to watch some of them.

Twilight Zone - 1 episode
The Virginian - 1 episode
The Fugitive - 3 episodes
Voyage to te Bottom of the Sea - 1 episode (Zar...must have been a sea creature)
Time Tunnel - 2 episodes
Combat! - 3 episodes
The Wild Wild West - 1 episode
Mod Squad - 1 episode
The F.B.I. - 5 episodes

Didn't remember (or realize) he was Frank Burns in the movie M*A*S*H. I need to rewatch that.

My favorite role of his was Hub in Second Hand Lions (probably because it is more recent and I really like the movie), but from his early work, The Great Santini.

If you get MeTV, they show Twilight Zone (nightly except Saturday, 12:30 AM) , Voyage... & Time Tunnel (Saturday late night), The Fugitive (Sunday late night), and (I think) Wild Wild West (yes - I just checked; it's Saturday 10 AM.)

Guess you can tell I'm retired - I have most of the late night MeTV schedule memorized!

The last thing I remember seeing him in was Alfred Hitchcock Presents (airs after Twilight Zone), where he played a "Bad Actor" who got drunk and (accidentally?) strangled his friend who was up for the same role. Shenanigans ensue when he tries to dispose of the body  !

I knew that.

Can't forget his awesome portrayal of Captain Gus MaCrae (sp) in Lonesome Dove and I am seeing Open Range prominently mentioned today-I have never seen that so I will have to rectify that.

"Secondhand Lions" is our all-time family favorite movie and is tied for my personal favorite movie with "Blood Diamond."

Thinking of Killer Tomato today with his love for Godfather 1 and 2.

To probably no one's surprise-this is my favorite Robert Duvall scene.

The great part starts at 50 seconds.

The hanging of Jake Spoon in Lonesome Dove ranks pretty high also.

It has been noted in various places in the last couple of days that he has said his favorite part was Captain Augustus MaCrae (sp) "Gus"-in Lonesome Dove."

Rough quote-
"He is my Hamlet."

That may well be the case -but Secondhand Lions had to be near the top for sheer fun for him.

OK-Admittedly I just opened myself up to a "And you know this how"-LOL

Well, I don't-but I am speculating and since I found (and repeatedly find) the movie so much fun-I hope he did also.

Gus is chasing buffalo today and I hope I can join him someday.

While they maybe could have found someone besides Tommy Lee Jones to play Woodrow-there is no other actor ever who could have played Gus

IIRC-Big Fish and Secondhand Lions came out about the same time and they both have very similar themes.

I believe that Big Fish probably got more attention at the time but I wager that Lions has longer legs decades down the line.

FTR-I recently rewatched Big Fish for the second time-the first was more around the time it came out.

While I enjoyed it much more this time and there is nothing wrong with it I have to put Lions above it as a personal favorite and a perennial re-watch-Conversely, I will probably not watch Big Fish again.
