Jeff Kent was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee yesterday. What's more noteworthy is who didn't make it. Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens (along with Gary Sheffield and Fernando Valenzuela) were not named on at least five ballots and have been dropped from future ballots. Bonds and Clemens will have one more opportunity in 2031 when they are eligible as part of the players retired an even longer time. If Bonds and Clemens don't get five votes on that ballot, they will be dropped and unable to qualify in the future under the present rules.
Voting on the regular ballot for more recently retired players will take place after the first of the year.
