Amazon Settles FTC Lawsuit for $2.5 Billion

Amazon has agreed to a $2.5 billion settlement with the FTC in regard to a lawsuit filed against it by the Commission. The trial on the lawsuit began this week. The settlement includes a $1 billion civil penalty and $1.5 billion in restitution to 35 million customers who were allegedly misled into signing up for Prime or who were victimized by an overly complicated cancellation procedure. As part of the settlement, Amazon agreed to modify its Prime subscription procedure to make the terms and method of signing up clearer, and to give customers an easier way to cancel their subscriptions. Amazon did not admit to any wrongdoing.

I'm not sure how they determine who the 35 million lucky customers are.
