I have an AMC Theaters A-list pass, which entitles me to see four movies a week at an AMC theater for free. In order to use the pass, I go to the AMC site, select the theater, show time, and seat, and then "purchase" the ticket. When the payment screen comes up, it voids out the ticket cost, processing fee, and tax, and I "purchase" the ticket for free. I can then show the QR code at the theater to get in. That's how it worked without a hitch until today. (If I wanted to see a popular film, I made sure to order the ticket sufficiently in advance before the show sold out.)
However, today, tickets for Taylor Swift's new concert video film in two weeks went on sale. Although these tickets are also being sold through other theater chains, her tweet to her followers implied that AMC was the exclusive venue, and that the 90-minute film would only be showing for three days (appears to be true). Needless to say, Swifties flooded the AMC website, crashing it repeatedly. It was over an hour before I could log on, only to be told that any AMC discounts (like my A-list) were not currently being honored. I can understand them not wanting to offer any discounts for the Taylor Swift film, but to shut down all discounts for the site meant that I would have to pay full price for a ticket I'm supposed to get for free. Needless to say, I'm not doing that and will wait until later to watch my "free" movie.
Taylor, you beat me fair and square.
