Lyricist who co-wrote many classic movie and TV songs with his wife Marilyn (who died in 2022). Among their songs were Oscar winners The Way We Were and The Windmills of Your Mind (from the original Thomas Crown Affair), along with Papa, Can You Hear Me (from Yentl), Yellow Bird, In the Heat of the Night, and You Don't Bring Me Flowers. TV work included the theme from Maude and Good Times.
