Theme Daze Example game

#1 Post by mrkelley23 » Wed May 14, 2025 10:26 pm

I'll leave this open through the weekend. There's only seven questions for this one, but there will be ten for the others.

Theme Daze – Example
1. Edvard Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A Minor is a major plot point in this 2018 spy thriller starring Jennifer Lawrence.

2. This was the nickname for the feared 3-4 defense of the Denver Broncos in the late 1970s.

3. Originally conceived as a competitor to Mountain Dew, this soft drink was named after a song by Donovan, which in turn was, according to the songwriter, named after a dildo.

4. A 1984 painting replacing the faceless characters in Hopper’s Nighthawks with American movie stars shares its title with one of the biggest hits of this pop/punk band.

5. Lyrics: Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di

6. Lyrics: That feelin' goes stealin' down to my shoes
While I sit and sigh, "Go 'long blues"

7. She’s the character who “blows up like a blueberry” in the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie. No word yet on whether that’s where Ben Affleck got his daughter’s first name.

Well, this is encouraging. I do spy a theme from the two I know, but it's not helping me with any of the others...

Yay, I bat 1.000 on the freebie and will probably suck hard enough to draw a tennis ball through a garden hose when it really counts... but I'm looking forward to the effort!!

Red Sparrow

Orange Crush

3. Originally conceived as a competitor to Mountain Dew, this soft drink was named after a song by Donovan, which in turn was, according to the songwriter, named after a dildo.

Mello Yello

They've brought it back, I saw somebody drinking one at bingo and made a Mike Torres joke (which of course they didn't get)

4. A 1984 painting replacing the faceless characters in Hopper’s Nighthawks with American movie stars shares its title with one of the biggest hits of this pop/punk band.

Green Day

They have faces, just anonymous ones. Edward Hopper is one of my favourite American artists. Years ago my mom had to go on a work trip to Indianapolis and my dad and I went with her. I was so excited because I wanted to go to the museum. I managed to see the Hopper and the Caravaggio but my dad made me leave before I could see the Lautrec. Why?
Because it was imperative we go find a KMart in the middle of a snowstorm so he could buy a new pocketknife (wtf?) and get some White Castles...

5. Lyrics: Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di

Blue - Eiffel 65

I have nothing to say about this except it's super annoying

6. Lyrics: That feelin' goes stealin' down to my shoes
While I sit and sigh, "Go 'long blues"

Mood Indigo - Duke Ellington

I applaud your taste, I was antici...pating Closer to Fine

7. She’s the character who “blows up like a blueberry” in the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie. No word yet on whether that’s where Ben Affleck got his daughter’s first name.

Violet Beauregard

Dave Grohl also has a Violet, but I think it's from the song. My Violet (RIP) was named by her foster mom for her favourite colour, but I always sang My Shy Violet to her.

She's a Rainbow - Rolling Stones

You probably just want ROYGBIV, but we all know that I like to be extra....ha!

Violet Beauregarde

Theme: Colors of Newton's light spectrum, in order (ROY G BIV). If you look closely at a rainbow, there's really only six approximately equal regions of color. But Newton was obsessed with sevenses, because da Bible, so he slid Indigo in there.

Mock points

Melly 12 (I'm going to have to remember to take the suggestion and post a place for the theme guess)
SSS 23 (Bonus for knowing Violet's last name)
Vandal 16
BiT 18
Earl 31 (1 point for Beauregarde, but no other bonuses ... yet.)
krox 21
lb13 4
