Shark Sleeps with the Fishes

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Wed May 14, 2008 10:55 am

CBS has cancelled the James Woods legal drama Shark and the vampire drama Moonlight. With the departure of Moonlight and New Amsterdam, I guess that means that, on television, immortality lasts one season or less.

A couple of other shows on the fence, The Unit and The New Adventures of Old Christine, will be back.

Among the new series are Eleventh Hour, from Jerry Bruckheimer, with Rufus Sewell as a professor who helps investigate when problems arise at government scientific endeavors. Hard to say if this is another X-Files or a typical Bruckheimer action film or perhaps another CSI clone (we've found the problem, you see this hole in the side of the reactor, that's where all the radiation is coming from as my geiger counter reveals)

Also, The Mentalist, with Simon Baker, formerly of The Guardian, as a man with psychic abilities who helps out the police while trying to find the serial killer who killed his own family. It's good to see Baker back on TV, but I have my doubts about this one.

There will be two editions of The Amazing Race, fall and winter.

Rufus Sewell is kind of interesting.

Since the Eleventh Hour implies an immanent crisis, I suspect it'll be an action variety of House.

"It's against all protocols, but the only way to stop this reactor from melting down is to give it a steroid injection at twice the usual limits, now!"

Or something.

What about the only two CBS shows I actually watch, How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory? --Bob

Both of them will be back Monday night from 8-9, followed by 2 1/2 Men and a new comedy, Worst Week, about a young couple's first few days (depending on when it gets cancelled) or weeks of living together.

Yay, Simon Baker!

So long, Shark -- I liked that show.

Are they gonna show the 2nd season of Dexter, or do I have to find it on DVD?

Crap crap crap. Two I liked. I don't bet Woods' carping (fish theme!) last year about having to appear in every scene; what? didn't he understand the concept "title character of TV series"? didn't help, but no-one, especially not Woods, was phoning their parts in.

And Moonlight was a downright guilty, if daffy pleasure. So we'll never know about whether ex-wife's temporary vampire cure can be permanentized, huh? And "innocent Beth" just basically asked, & got one of Title Char's fellow vampires to put a hit out on Evil Photographer who's trying to out Title Char, so she's innocent Beth no more. I must say, though, having 2 incidental but meaningful "relationship characters" killed off weeks apart does not bode well for a series; usually means either they or the producers think they have "better places to go".
