Piano/Keyboard question

#1 Post by Beebs52 » Wed Sep 04, 2024 8:14 pm

I'm a geezer. Back in the day I played keyboard for the church I attended. I grew up playing the piano, etc and lost it for awhile during my 20's.

Picked it up for church in the 90s and was happy about regaining my ability such as it was.
My best accompaniment was Laudames Te, which is fast. Heard it recently, so printed out the sheet music and except for having trouble seeing some of the smaller stuff I did it!

Anyone else a piano person?
Well, then

Started at age 4, could barely reach lol. Lessons for 15 years, and did a lot of competitions. Got to a level of being able to teach, then moved from home, didn’t have the piano for years. I have mused on getting a keyboard and trying again.

I was a piano person until my hands betrayed me. I forget how old I was when I first took lessons; probably eight. I was pretty darned good. I put that aside for a guitar when I was 14.

I moved to Boise in 1987 and soon bought an electronic keyboard with an external Roland synthesizer. I had a MIDI connection to my PC, and I started doing multi-track compositions. I had software that was the equivalent of a word processor with a spell checker.

In the 90s, I started developing Duputrytrens Disease, which made my ring and pinky fingers pretty useless. After several operations, they look normal but can't properly play a piano or guitar. I can still plunk out a tune, but certainly not anything performance-worthy.

Therefore, I've been using a MIDI keyboard and a PC to compose songs. I have been sending them to a Nashville studio for production. (Oh, I should mention I can't sing Happy Birthday on key.) Here's my latest: https://soundcloud.com/bobjuch/friday-n ... al_sharing

I was pretty good as a kid, worked up to Moonlight Sonata and a Ferrante & Teischer duet with my mom (I'm thinking it was a West Side Story medley?).

I didn't mind the slog of practice, but did not care for recitals, to which I had to wear a dress.

Every so often I toy with getting a more portal keyboard, but I usually get over that impulse quickly enough. I did flirt with singing backup on some T-Bone tracks some years while ago, but they didn't need keyboards added. I never got the tapes converted to digital, so it never happened.

I like the idea of some of yas getting used keyboards from Goodwill and playing again ...

I started developing Duputrytrens Disease,
You, me, and Elway! And both my brothers. And one of my bridge friends, who says it means we're Vikings.

Continued good luck with the songwriting.

Yep, my DNA proves my Viking ancestry.

I didn't know that about the Viking thing. I'm half Norwegian. It skirted me.😀

This is what Ancestry.com has for my genes:
Scotland 29%
Sweden & Denmark 27%
England & Northwestern Europe 24%
Norway 11%

Now, of course, Scotland is going to have a lot of Viking genes. That's where the red hair came from.
