Barbie movie
Just too funny in the hypocrisy. Not that I care that she is/was the strange objectification of weird legs and other body parts. Dint wreck my life.
But how is she relevant now?

Re: Barbie movie
Fun fact. I had the original blonde Barbie wwith the black and white striped swimsuit.
I thought I'd give her a new hairstyle so unraveled the top part, and there was a lotta bald there. I gave her an updo by pounding a nail in the head there. It kinda worked plus we donated her brain to science.
I wasn't a real dolly person...

Ms. Magazine:
"‘Barbie’ is a masterful investigation into the facets of femininity that patriarchal influences have sought to erase. It is a reclamation of girlhoods that were destroyed by societal expectations."

Box Office: ‘Barbie’ Scores Massive $93 Million, ‘Oppenheimer’ Adds Huge $46 Million in Second Weekends
It’s a “Barbenheimer” world and we’re just living in it.
The collective force of “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” continued to rule the box office in their second weekends of release, providing another needed jolt as two Hollywood strikes threaten the fragile exhibition industry.
Greta Gerwig’s cotton candy-colored fantasy comedy again led the way, adding a massive $93 million between Friday and Sunday. Ticket sales for “Barbie” declined just 43% from its debut and resulted in the seventh-biggest second weekend in history. The only movies that enjoyed bigger sophomore outing tallies were billion-dollar behemoths “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($149 million), “Avengers: Endgame” ($147 million) and “Infinity War” ($114 million), “Black Panther” ($111 million), “Jurassic World” ($106 million) and “The Avengers” ($103 million).

I thought the patriarchy had been keeping women down forever so when did the facets of femininity that the patriarchy has sought to erase even get a chance to develop?
Was BC 452 (chosen randomly) a time when girlhoods were not destroyed by societal expectations?

Re: Barbie movie
I haven't seen the movie, but I watched a clip of America Ferrera's highly lauded speech. What struck me is that while most of the 'complaints' were certainly relevant a generation ago, much that still exists, from my perspective, is perpetrated on women by women, more than men.Spock wrote: ↑Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:30 amI thought the patriarchy had been keeping women down forever so when did the facets of femininity that the patriarchy has sought to erase even get a chance to develop?

‘Barbie’ Surpasses $1 Billion Globally After 17 Days of Release
“Barbie” is saying “hiya” to the billion-dollar club.
Greta Gerwig’s pink-coated fantasy comedy has surpassed $1 billion at the global box office, including $459 million in North America and $572 million internationally. This makes Gerwig the first-ever female director to helm a billion-dollar film on her own. “Captain Marvel,” co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, grossed more than $1 billion in 2019.
“Barbie” is hitting the coveted milestone after just 17 days of release, becoming the fastest Warner Bros. release (and eighth in the studio’s 100-year history) to join the $1 billion club. “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” previously held that record at 19 days.
