I do like the Law and Order series. I record them and watch when I have time.silverscreenselect wrote: ↑Fri May 19, 2023 10:25 pm

BTW, I think their disclaimer "The following story is fictional and does not depict any actual person or event." is BS. For many, if not most, we know the real cases they are based on, maybe only loosely so, but the initial events match.
I doubt it. I'll be watching the SEC.

I was going to write that it doesn't help support that assertion to refer to their stories as "ripped from the headlines." I then searched L&O and that phrase, and this was the first hit:BackInTex wrote: ↑Sat May 20, 2023 7:24 amI do like the Law and Order series. The bottom of that page has links to lists of "ripped from the headlines" episodes of the various L&O franchises.Law & Order episodes are often advertised as being "ripped from the headlines". Many people mistake this to mean that they are based on actual events. In reality, the slogan refers to the franchise's practice of conceiving stories that are partially inspired by recent headlines. There might be a few scenes that resemble a well-known headline, while the majority of the episode goes in a different direction, or there could be one character that is based on a famous individual, but the circumstances the person encounters are largely fictional.
Often the plot of an initial portion of an episode resembles a recognizable aspect of an actual case, such as the 1998 episode of the original series "Tabloid", wherein a woman is killed in a car crash after being chased by a gossip reporter, similarly to Princess Diana's death in August 1997. This "ripped from the headlines" theme is reflected in the opening credits sequence that evolves from newspaper halftones to high-resolution photos. The rest of the plot, however, usually diverges significantly from the actual events that may have inspired the episode.
Promotional advertisements of episodes with close real-life case parallels often use the "ripped from the headlines" phrase, although a textual disclaimer, within the actual episode, emphasizes that the story and characters are fictional. This format lends itself to exploring different outcomes or motives that similar events could have had under other circumstances.
The show Law & Order: Organized Crime takes a different approach to storylines though as a narrative arc spans multiple episodes and is stated to not be "ripped from the headlines".

Adam Goldberg's production company is called This Episode is Entirely a Work of Fiction, LLC, belying the fact that the setting and the names of many of the characters of "The Goldbergs" on ABC reflect Goldberg's own childhood.

Night Court took a while to settle in, but to be fair, so did the original. Recommendation for next season: Do more episodes with lots of quick cases in the courtroom, which is where the original shone for comedy. And make it more obvious that the DA thinks she is in a film noir. And write more scenes for the bailiff and John Laroquette; they crackle.

Re: NBC Fall Schedule Announced
NBC has joined the other networks in revising its fall schedule due to the writers and actors strikes. Some of its scripted shows already had filmed most or all of their episodes before the strike and will remain on the schedule. NBC is hoping the strikes end so they can resume production of any remaining episodes without a break (or they may cut the season short, especially if new show ratings are poor). The season will start Monday, September 25.
