Stupid is as stupid does

#1 Post by BackInTex » Thu Dec 15, 2022 8:35 pm

Me.

Just bought a new house. Out in the country. On two acres. On a well. With septic.

Always been a city deweller with fresh city water and sewers to send my stuff elsewhere.

About 70 oak trees. Some gonna come down, most need and will be trimmed up by me, on a ladder.

Excited about sitting on the patio watching the deer grazing, until we plant flowers. Saw some deer porn a week ago as we were doing a walk through. Maybe we'll see little Bambi in the spring.

No more quick runs to the store to get the stick of butter or jar of paprika for that recipe. Trips need to be planned as we'll be 20 minutes from the nearest real store. There is a Dollar General about 2 miles up the road, but you can't rely on them to have anything specific.

I'd post pictures if I could figure that thing out. Embarassing that BBK can do it, but I can't seem to.

We'll move in over the holidays. My rental expires Jan. 13th so we have a month. Hoping AT&T gets the fiber optic fired up by then. They laid the underground and pulled the fiber. So hopefully on a couple more weeks. Otherwise it will be a 20 mile drive to find wi-fi to work.

Oh, and son graduates tomorrow with an Industrial Engineering degree. Has a job already starting in January, at a facility about 2 miles from where he did all his growing up. I drove by that facility in my first 10 minutes of my 60 minute commute, every workday, for 20 years, thinking "if I worked there, I be at work already".

Fourth grandbaby, the first grandson, due in March.

Looking forward to 2023. How 'bout you?

This sounds like a fab adventure. Funny how kid stuff turns around...babies!, deer!, planning shopping!

Get someone else to do the ladder work...

2023 will be armbrace free I hope.
Well, then

I am really really glad to hear that you are taking on new challenges in living arrangements at your age.

I am so damn sick of fairly young people (well people my age and a few years older) downsizing and moving into townhomes and such.

Congratulations BiT. I've saved you the trouble of taking pictures of your new home and posting them. Here's one with your local deer population on display up close and personal.

You can have all our neighborhood deer, and probably the next neighborhood too.

Be sure to protect your tulips and new shrubs.

Good luck. My house in South Carolina was on 1-3/4 acres and had a well and septic, also a forest of pines that hid the pond from the house. I paid to have that thinned out by 2/3. Later I had to replace the well pump and have the septic drain field redone. I also have to have the area below the house (too big to call it a crawl space and too small to call it a basement) sealed with plastic sheets and a sump pump installed.

Never again.

2023 will be a challenging year. Hubs is in good shape for the shape he's in. His dad (84) moved in with us this summer. It's been... a challenge. He's quite healthy, but needs a lot of attention. My mom (88) is currently staying with me, as well. Each morning usually starts with the two of them determining which is in the worst shape. Mom's hearing is going, Dan's is fine, so when she complains (loudly) about him, he can hear every word. He gets cranky when people other than him use the coffee-maker. "Why do they need to have a cup of coffee?" "Well, I suppose the same reason you do..?" If someone could just shoot me now, that'd be great.
God bless us one and all.

If I were a writer of sitcoms I’d use this as a pilot episode and give you co-credit.
