Re: Ian
My brother and SIL live just north of Orlando. They have battened down their hatches.

My boss and her family, and my son and his family were both planning on flying to Orlando tomorrow - she to Disney and he to Universal - but their flights were cancelled.

Here's hoping our Florida peeps and their loved ones stay safe. It looks ugly.

And those resorts are closed.

Pea is just south of Tampa which was well north of where Ian came ashore. My co-worker's brother lives in Tamp and said the bay was 9 ft down. Other than wind they were spared the brunt of the storm.

Re: Ian
I went to high school in Sarasota, and one summer we lived in a rental house one block from the beach on Siesta Key. Fortunately, we didn't have any really nasty weather that summer. However, I remember that whenever there was a hurricane anywhere in the area, idiots would take the opportunity to go surfing in the really high waves. More recently, my brother's in-laws owned a condo on Longboat Key, to the north of Siesta Key. He and his family spent a number of Christmas vacations there. Sarasota appears to have missed the worst of the storm, which came ashore around Punta Gorda, an hour's drive south of there.
