The Grand Army of the Republic organizations was to Union Civil War vets what the American Legion and VFW were/are to later generations of veterans.

I actually got a tear in my eye when I read "We are the boys of '61."
And just to show how close history actually is-the hall was used by Civil War vets into the 1930's.
