Lyrically Speaking - 1/28/21

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Thu Jan 28, 2021 5:42 am

I'm not the only one who asks people to provide songs to fit a certain prompt. It's a popular game in the blogosphere as well. This game was inspired by a somewhat specific theme I saw about a month ago that one blogger complained had hardly any songs which fit it at all. I challenged myself, using both titles and artists, to come up with 12 songs that each contained a unique element of the theme. A few of these may be stretches for obvious reasons, and for one song you'll need a certain artist to know how it fits (though I'd never count it against you if you chose a non-fitting one). But, mission accomplished! And remember, unlike yesterday's simple game, this theme is more specific, and is one I guarantee you neither I, nor any other LS-Meister has ever used.

And before I forget...... GET THOSE FRIDAY REQUESTS IN TODAY! I still only have 8 submissions!

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme....

1. Holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own

2. I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies 'll be blue
For all my life

3. Well, my name`s
John Lee Pettimore
Same as my daddy
And his daddy before

4. I was broken from a young age
Taking my sulking to the masses
Writing my poems for the few
That look at me, took to me, shook to me, feeling me

5. Friends say it's fine, my friends say it's good
Ev'rybody says it's just like Rock and Roll

6. If I listen close, I can hear
Them singers, oh oh oh
Voices in your body
Coming through on the radio

7. That my love was an addiction
When we cling, our love is strong
When you go, you're gone forever
You string along, you string along

8. I know your type
(Your type)
Boy, you're dangerous
Yeah, you're that guy
(That guy)
I'd be stupid to trust
But just one night couldn't be so wrong
You make me wanna lose control

9. Well, I saw my baby walking
With another man today
Well, I saw my baby walking
With another man today
Now, when I asked her what's the matter
This is what I heard her say

10. He picks up a bus
And he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings
Toward the center of town

11. That night we split a rattlesnake and danced beneath the stars
You fell asleep, I stayed awake and watched the passing cars

12. The best things in life are free
But you can give them to the birds and bees

Union of the Snake - FECB aka Duran Duran

This has got to be in here someplace and this looks like a likely spot...

Assuming this is your have to be a certain artist, if it's as simple as reptiles...

Theme?

This can't just be reptiles, since dragons and Godzilla don't even exist. And that also shoots down any kingdom, taxonomy kind of stuff. It also rules out any sort of ordering, like oldest, biggest, etc.
So, even I can't overthink this one, even though you stated specificity.

Rattlesnake Shake - Aerosmith

You had at least one snake, more if my FECB guess is right, so I think I'm safe with this one.

1. Holding hands and skimming stones
Had an old gold Chevy and a place of my own
Crocodile Rock - Elton John

2. I can't see me lovin' nobody but you
For all my life
When you're with me, baby the skies 'll be blue
For all my life
Happy Together - Turtles

3. Well, my name`s
John Lee Pettimore
Same as my daddy
And his daddy before
Copperhead Road - Steve Earle

4. I was broken from a young age
Taking my sulking to the masses
Writing my poems for the few
That look at me, took to me, shook to me, feeling me
Believer - Imagine Dragons (This is easily my favorite song since the turn of the millennium...)

5. Friends say it's fine, my friends say it's good
Ev'rybody says it's just like Rock and Roll Robin Hood
20th Century Boy - T. Rex (Geez, some lyrics sites, I swear....)

6. If I listen close, I can hear
Them singers, oh oh oh
Voices in your body
Coming through on the radio
Union of the Snake - Duran Duran

7. That my love was an addiction
When we cling, our love is strong
When you go, you're gone forever
You string along, you string along
Karma Chameleon - Culture Club

8. I know your type
(Your type)
Boy, you're dangerous
Yeah, you're that guy
(That guy)
I'd be stupid to trust
But just one night couldn't be so wrong
You make me wanna lose control
Good Girls Go Bad - Cobra Starship (Mecca Radio had another song of theirs from one of the CD's that I really liked... you wouldn't know it either)

9. Well, I saw my baby walking
With another man today
Well, I saw my baby walking
With another man today
Now, when I asked her what's the matter
This is what I heard her say
See Ya Later Alligator - Bill Haley And His Comets (I love that they're HIS Comets. I guess slavery was still allowed in the early days of rock and roll...)

10. He picks up a bus
And he throws it back down
As he wades through the buildings
Toward the center of town
Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult (In trying to verify whether Godzilla would be considered a reptile or not, I came upon many interesting debates on whether he was actually a reptile or an amphibian. And you know what... those arguments made more sense than just about any political discussion...)

11. That night we split a rattlesnake and danced beneath the stars
You fell asleep, I stayed awake and watched the passing cars
Walk the Dinosaur - Was (Not Was) (One of the 80's awesome little treats that I can't believe gets passed over by corporate radio today for airplay...)

12. The best things in life are free
But you can give them to the birds and bees
Money - The Flying Lizards (Look, I know The Beatles were the greatest band of all time. You can trash Blurred Lines, turn your nose up to fruity English club bands, and even demolish my beloved disco... and I'll do my best to understand. But if you don't think that The Flying Lizards version of "Money" not only deserves to be the definitive version, but is an absolute work of GENIUS........ well, I just won't ever understand your taste in music.)

Theme? - Reptiles! Yeah, I had to use several brands of snake and a couple mythical creatures to pull it off.... but there's plenty of scaly love in the cold blooded world of rock and roll!

Image Bonus: If you know the theme, show me a fitting image.

What in the hell is it with you guys and Harry Freaking Potter!?!? Bah! At least Barney made me nostalgic for those horrible kids shows of the 90's. That said, the IBB goes to TBone for the snake that's about to test that old cartoon gag about what happens when a vacuum cleaner tries to suck itself up....

I debated which one to put first. I went with the Godzilla one since it tied to the song you used

Today was no such debate.
