Lyrically Speaking - 1/26/21

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Jan 26, 2021 7:47 am

It's Tuesday, so that means today's game is a Tuesday Wordplay. You know, where the songs all have a common word in the title. It's been that way for 14 years now. This should be nothing...... well.... I don't want to spoil the game.

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. One that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red

2. I said it again
Could I please rephrase it
Maybe I can catch a ride
I couldn`t really put it much plainer
But I`ll wait til you decide

3. Running hot, running cold
I was running into overload
It was extreme

4. And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage

5. All along the Southbound odyssey
The train pulls out at Kankakee
Rolls along past houses
Farms and fields

6. Stop at Third and Forty-three
Exit to the night
It's gonna be ecstacy
This place was meant for me

7. You look in her eyes the music begins to play
Hopeless romantics here we go again
But after awhile you're looking the other way
It's those restless hearts that never mend

8. When you wake up tomorrow
You'll be all alone
Oh, the love that we had
I have quickly outgrown

9. Come here, mama
And dig this crazy scene
He's not too fancy
But his line is pretty clean

10. Oh, she loves me so
She hates to be alone
She don't eat meat
But she sure like the bone

11. You cannot go against nature
Because when you do
Go against nature
It's part of nature too

12. He`s got a problem with his poisons
But you know he`ll find a cure
He`s cleaning up his systems
To keep his nature pure

Hey, you subconsciously depend on it! I just hit the first LS post and went "wait a minute, this is Tuesday's game, why is it not Tuesday Wordplay? Then noticed that the new game had already been posted...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. One that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red

I Want a New Drug - Huey Lewis and the News

It's been a very Huey season, but it won't be complete until you hit my favourite Huey Tune (which isn't The Heart of Rock and Roll)

2. I said it again
Could I please rephrase it
Maybe I can catch a ride
I couldn`t really put it much plainer
But I`ll wait til you decide

New Meat on the Move - Ed "Beebs" Gein

3. Running hot, running cold
I was running into overload
It was extreme

New Attitude - Patti Labelle

Bye bye krox, and me under a time crunch even. Luckily I still have two in the chamber...

4. And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage

New Year's Day - U2

5. All along the Southbound odyssey
The train pulls out at Kankakee
Rolls along past houses
Farms and fields

City of New Orleans - Arlo Guthrie

6. Stop at Third and Forty-three
Exit to the night
It's gonna be ecstacy
This place was meant for me

New York Groove - Ace Frehley

Also some English (was there any other kind?) glam band whose name I cannot recall but will come to me at 4:33 am three nights from now...

7. You look in her eyes the music begins to play
Hopeless romantics here we go again
But after awhile you're looking the other way
It's those restless hearts that never mend

New Kid in Town - Eagles

See ya, krox numero dos....

8. When you wake up tomorrow
You'll be all alone
Oh, the love that we had
I have quickly outgrown

Brand New Lover - Dead or Alive

lb's favourite category, the second hit from a OHW

9. Come here, mama
And dig this crazy scene
He's not too fancy
But his line is pretty clean

Papa's Got a Brand New Bag - James Brown

10. Oh, she loves me so
She hates to be alone
She don't eat meat
But she sure like the bone

11. You cannot go against nature
Because when you do
Go against nature
It's part of nature too

12. He`s got a problem with his poisons
But you know he`ll find a cure

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the magic word of the day in the title.

New Squirrel Now - Honeymoon Suite

Yet another missed Annie Bonus opportunity....

Ugh, trying to advance my cursor and it erased the rest and I'm in too much of a time crunch to go back and do a new quote, so I'm going to ASSume that it was an image bonus about the word new

Because when you do
Go against nature
It's part of nature too

12. He`s got a problem with his poisons
But you know he`ll find a cure
He`s cleaning up his systems
To keep his nature pure

Kroxquo Bonus: Name another song with artist that contains the magic word of the day in the title.

New York, New York, Frank Sinatra

Image Bonus: If you know the word, show me a fitting image!

Best I could do. Can't wait until I see what everybody else came up with.

1. One that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red
I Want A New Drug - Huey Lewis and the News (One of the themes for today's game that rolled through my head early, early this morning [I've been up since midnight] was songs that mention taking pills. But once I realized I'd just burned this song, I quickly shitcanned it...)

2. I said it again
Could I please rephrase it
Maybe I can catch a ride
I couldn`t really put it much plainer
But I`ll wait til you decide
New Moon On Monday - Duran Duran (Earl misses another FECB...)

3. Running hot, running cold
I was running into overload
It was extreme
New Attitude - Patti LaBelle (Did I just mention the BHC soundtrack? I need to work the other two into this series now, though I don't know how I'll do that with "Axel F!")

4. And so we are told this is the golden age
And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
New Years Day - U2 (Old enough U2 that it wasn't even a Top 40 hit despite being one of their better known songs from MTV...)

5. All along the Southbound odyssey
The train pulls out at Kankakee
Rolls along past houses
Farms and fields
City of New Orleans - Arlo Guthrie (A popular elwood Krox/request. Maybe the one former LSWE player I'd want back the most...)

6. Stop at Third and Forty-three
Exit to the night
It's gonna be ecstacy
This place was meant for me
New York Groove - Ace Frehley (Other than the title city, there's no reason for it, but this song makes me think of Clem...)

7. You look in her eyes the music begins to play
Hopeless romantics here we go again
But after awhile you're looking the other way
It's those restless hearts that never mend
New Kid In Town - Eagles

8. When you wake up tomorrow
You'll be all alone
Oh, the love that we had
I have quickly outgrown
Brand New Lover - Dead Or Alive

9. Come here, mama
And dig this crazy scene
He's not too fancy
But his line is pretty clean
Papa's Got A Brand New Bag - James Brown (Hopefully not a colostomy bag...)

10. Oh, she loves me so
She hates to be alone
She don't eat meat
But she sure like the bone
New Age Girl - Deadeye Dick (Damn, did everyone this year just go around and forget the 90's ever happened? I thought I was handing out an EZ Annie Bonus...)

11. You cannot go against nature
Because when you do
Go against nature
It's part of nature too
No New Tale To Tell - Love and Rockets (The one song they're known for is awful. This, and especially their cover of "Ball of Confusion," are excellent!)

12. He`s got a problem with his poisons
But you know he`ll find a cure
He`s cleaning up his systems
To keep his nature pure
New World Man - Rush

Image Bonus: If you know the word, show me a fitting image!

This one came down to Weasel (Who's been on a roll) and melly, both recent IBB winners. Weasel may be gracious enough not to bogart the Sam's Club sized joint, but he sure is bogarting the Image Bonus Bonuses, adding another one to his shelf for 2021...

Hey! Best I could do in the short time I had available. Inspiration doesn't seem to strike me like lightning in this game, more like a turtle.

Geez, even complaining when I give you a free point! No wonder I usually don't give you any...

And I will most likely continue to miss them until you pull out Boom Boom Boom again (although I've already forgotten the dude's name again... Paul Somethingfrench? I'd best look that up so I'll be prepared.

Meanwhile, I can't believe what's worst, mixing up AC/DC with Rolling Stones (adding insult to injury, if I'd gotten that one I would have picked that as yours) or missing Rocky when that was actually one of the many kroxes I was talking about in the comments. Especially considering I may be the only person here that will admitting to liking, nay loving, that song! At least I did, I haven't acually heard it for decades, but angsty, preteen me loved the hell out of it. As I recall that was about the same time that Sunshine (the movie) came out and all of those 'somebody's dying young' joints really got to me....
