Joe Laurinaitis, better known has Animal in the popular pro wrestling tag teams The Road Warriors and Legion of Doom, has died. Age 60.
He was quite the character in the old Georgia NWA days.

Definitely NOT a rush.
To those scratching their heads at that, it makes more sense if you followed wrestling back in the heyday of The Road Warriors. Or The Legion of Doom, as they were known in the WWF/E.
Probably my favorite tag team ever.

They had style. And like Jake the Snake Roberts, they got the fans on their side no matter how many dirty tricks they pulled. According to his obituary, he was only 60. I'd have thought he was older. His partner Hawk died almost 20 years ago while he was still in his 40s.

Even though wrestling is allegedly clean now, the damage done to these men and women from years of abusing steroids and pain killers is almost incalculable. Vince McMahon (himself a former steroid abuser) once reacted to Bob Costas' suggestion that McMahon bears responsibility for this by physically assaulting Costas (knocking a clip board out of Costas' hands during an interview) but, truth be known, he is responsible.

We. Are. Iron Men!!
I wonder if they've released a cause yet. Last time I saw him was on a Dark Side of the Ring episode last year and he seemed to be in good health and he never had the drug and alcohol issues that Hawk did.
Hard to believe that it's been 17 years since Hawk died...
