Taking a page from the George Zimmerman playbook, the Trump for President campaign has sued the New York Times for defamation, alleging that a March 2019 article that said that Trump had an overarching deal with Russia in 2016 exchanging campaign help for favorable treatment later on. The suit asks for "millions of damages." The article in question was written by Max Frankel, a former executive editor of the Times and was clearly labeled as opinion at the time it first appeared (a fact that does not appear in Trump's complaint). A few notes:
--The case was filed in the New York County (Manhattan) Supreme Court (the trial court in the state of NY)
--The Trump campaign is the plaintiff, not Trump himself. It alleges that the suit defamed the campaign in its trade or profession.
--I'm not sure what New York libel law is, but it would appear that Trump and possibly others in his circle will be subject to depositions in this case. And as the case of Bill Clinton demonstrated, they would probably go on even while Trump is in office.
--I don't think that the Manhattan Supreme Court is the most favorable venue for Trump to press this lawsuit.

Re: Trump Campaign Sues New York Times for Defamation
The only person defaming Donald Drumpf's character is Genghis Con himself.
"[Drumpf's] name alone creates division and anger, whose words inspire dissension and hatred, and can't possibly 'Make America Great Again.'" --Kobe Bryant (1978-2020)
"In times of crisis, the wise build bridges. The foolish build barriers." --Chadwick Boseman (1976-2020)
