Work things that bring a chuckle

#1 Post by BackInTex » Thu Apr 04, 2019 2:09 pm

Not the reality of the events but the chosen code and description that had me chuckle.

I'm developing an interface to a 3rd party unemployment service provider. One of the feeds they need is the employment history of each employee (hire date, term date, rehire date, term reason, etc.)

I'm going through our system's codes and we have termination reason codes such as:
1 = Layoff
2 = Quit
3 = Terminated
5 = FTC (failure to comply)
8 = NCNS (no call no show)

There are only 2 codes above 10 and they are:
90 = Deceased
and the one that made me chuckle
Spoiler
86 = Iced

Aren't 5 and 8 subsets of 3?!
Well, then

Yes, I wasn't consulted on what the available codes and structure should be. 3 may be a catch all where termination was for something we don't want to track the reason for such as poor performance or excessive absences or tardiness.
