Personal Earth Day trivia:

On the very first Earth Day, I was a student in elementary school. To mark the event, our school had an outside assembly where we planted a tree in a grassy circle surrounded by the parking lot . It was a tiny little tree, maybe five or six feet tall.

By the wonders of Google Earth, I can find not only the school, but the tree as well. It's quite large.

I was a senior in high school in 1970. Our school didn't do much to observe the day.

Today is also the anniversary of the Oklahoma Land Rush, with those crossing the line early being called "Sooners", giving rise to the state nickname, "The Sooner State".
