I got interviewed for a book today

#1 Post by lilclyde54 » Tue Apr 15, 2008 3:54 pm

There is a father-son team of authors down here that published a book last year called Gridiron Gold . It is all about some of the more successful high school coaches we have here. In all, they interviewed over 150. During their interviews, the coaches kept telling tales about some of the intense rivalries they were involved in. The first book was successful enough that they are now working on a second book, Y'all versus Us that chronicles some of the best high school football rivalries in MS.

They started with a list of about 60-70 potential matchups and weeded that down to the top 25. They then cut that list down to 15. Our (Meridian) rivalry with Oak Grove made the cut. They wanted to interview either our radio broadcaster or our stadium P.A guy. My athletic director wanted me to do the interview. If you remember about 3 years ago, I posted a thread with the title "The Greatest High School Football Game I Ever Saw" after we triumphed over Oak Grove 45-42 for the MS 5A South State Championship. That was one of our games that made this rivalry so strong. In five of the past six years, we have played them twice per year. (11 games in 6 years) Oddly enough, it seems that the winner in the regular season matchup seems destined to lose when the re-match came around in the playoffs. That happened 4 of the 5 years we played twice.

Anyway, I hope the book turns out well. I love high school football and this will be a good read. Their first book was well written and I am sure this one will be too.

I hope you make the cut as well.

My brother and dad have great memories of the high school football seasons.

Our rivalry was John Jay. My brother and his friends stole their mascot and put in on our school roof.

They never got caught. If they had, they would not have been allowed to play said rivalry game. TPTB were in on the cover up, I am sure.
