Dad is resting comfortably now, and will be in for a couple of more days. They want to regulate his medications and make sure he is steady on his feet.
The culprit appears to be severe pulmonary edema. He already has narrow arteries and a narrow valve chamber, so the fluid build up puts excessive strain on his heart.
They are going to put him on a water pill, to see if that slows down the progression. All three cardiologists have agreed that a stent would do nothing, and that the surgery would be more of a sure risk than not doing it.
My brother arrived home last night, so he will take up much of the load for a few weeks.
