My new little brother or sister is out there, waiting for me

#1 Post by Lizbit » Wed Aug 23, 2017 11:18 pm

I was hoping I could tell you all about my new little brother or sister tonight, but nobody came home to live with us today. My mom went to the animal shelter today to try to dopt one of the two puppies she saw on line that she thought I would like best. (I was hoping she would come home with both of them.) She came home alone, though. Other two-footers got there first. Darn.

She said we will get up early in the morning, check the websites for various animal places, and try, try again. I wish I could go with her, but she said no, they won't let you be there. (That doesn't make sense to me. Why wouldn't they like me to visit? They like dogs, and I'm a dog. I even attended the dog pound nursery school with my entire litter. Who would fit in better and who would be a better judge of furry character?)

I did point out a photo of another dog that I found attractive. She looked a lot like me! Mom said, "Yes, she is adorable, but she's already about your size and she's just a puppy, because she's a Saint Bernard. She'll grow up to be about 10 times your size." (I'm pretty sure she was exaggerating, but I admit that I would be annoyed if a new puppy ate all my dinner and slopped over all the good sleeping places every single day.)

I think I'm an excellent big sis. I did a pretty good job of teaching BeBe stuff and helping her not to be afraid of new things. My big sis Annie was a great big sis, and she learned it all from her big sis Tigger. I figure I have generations of big sisdom instilled within me, and I'll teach the next pup not to eat flying stinger bugs, too.

Cross your fingers for us. Or toes, or paws. Whatever you've got.

Dearest Lizbit -- Fingers are crossed! I know you are an excellent big sis. I wish you could teach Annie long distance not to eat any flying stinger bugs.

Some lucky puppy will think she bought a Powerball ticket in Massachusetts
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
