It's a Flash Mob! Unexpected LS game

#1 Post by BackInTex » Mon Mar 06, 2017 11:10 am

Why not?

If someone will pin this to the top, I'd appreciate it.
This game will remain open at least through Tuesday, end of the work day (5:00 CST). I will score it sometime Tuesday night.

12 songs. Same rules as LSWE and all the others. No resources outside your skull, use the
Spoiler
spoiler tag, the one with the "=" sign.

1 point for the title
1 point for the artist
3 points for the theme
5 points for identifying the one themed song that is out of sequence
5 points for identifying the one song that does not fit the theme, surprisingly
2 points image bonus. Include an image that reminds you of one of today's featured songs.

I may add humor points where a player makes me smile (1 pt.), chuckle (2 pts.), LOL (3 pts.). But I warn you, I will subtract a point if I only roll my eyes. So be funny, or don't try.

I'm adding a new bonus: The Confessor Bonus or TCB. 5 pts. to the first response that points out an error. None have been intentionally included, but it is me, so there probably are some. One Confessor per player, and only one Confessor per error found. I will be the judge if it is an error (missing punctuation or inconsistency in application of punctuation or poor grammar don't count).

Good luck.

Oh, and LB starts out with 5 points just because he is not properly warmed up on playing the game.

1. He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
He told me:
Let the children lose it
Let the children use it
Let all the children boogie

2. Funky little boat race
The television man is crazy
Saying we're juvenile delinquent wrecks
Man I need a TV when I've got T. Rex

3. You've got to carry weapons
'Cause you always carry cash

4. When the garden flowers
Baby, are dead, yes
And your mind, your mind
Is so full of red

5. To the heart and mind
Ignorance is kind

6. But when you wish upon a dream
Life ain't always what it seems

7. I guess I'm just used to sailors
I think they got water on the brain
I think they got more water upstairs
Than they got sugar on a candy cane

8. We don't let our hair grow long and shaggy
Like the hippies out in San Francisco do

9. I've listened to preachers,
I've listened to fools
I've watched all the dropouts
Who make their own rules

10. Seems that I was busy doing something close to nothing
But different than the day before

11. You missed two classes, and no homework
But your teacher preaches class like you're some kind of jerk

12. But I'll be thinking of you (yes, and I'll be thinking of you)
And how it might have been (thinking how it might have been)
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.
~~ Thomas Jefferson

War is where the government tells you who the bad guy is.
Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.

--All are songs sung by singers who passed away in 2016, listed in chronological order of death.
--Wham! is out of order because George Michael died on Christmas Day and, therefore, should be listed last.
--Prince is also out of order because I believe that he died before Merle Haggard, not after.
--Ozzy Osbourne doesn't belong here because he's still alive... or at least parts of him are still alive.
--The Beastie Boys don't belong here, either, because MCA died a couple of years ago.
--For my image, I give you a close friend of mine who was also a musician who sadly passed away in 2016: Kory "Kalyko" Wilson.

12. But I'll be thinking of you (yes, and I'll be thinking of you)

No way I can get the theme from just 5 songs, especially if one of them doesn't belong. I might've known a couple others with more than a generic couplet of lyrics....

Theme is songs by singers or <bands with a member> who died in 2016.
George Michael fits the theme but died on Christmas (Eve or Day).
Ozzy is not completely dead yet. In fact, he did a show on the History Channel with his son. Beastie Boys have a dead member, but that was a few years ago, not 2016.

RIP, All. What a lot of great music!

Answers:

1. Starman - David Bowie (1/20/2016)
2. All the Young Dudes - Mott the Hoople (Dale Griffin) (1/17/2016)
3. Smuggler's Blues - Glenn Frey (1/18/2016)
4. Somebody To Love - Jefferson Airplane (Paul Kanter) (1/28/2016)
5. Careless Whisper - Wham! (George Michael) (12/25/2016) <-Out of Order
6. Fantasy - Earth, Wind, & Fire (Maurice White) (2/4/2016)
7. Nasty Girl - Vanity aka Denise Matthews (2/15/2016)
8. Okie From Muskogee - Merle Haggard (4/6/2016)
9. Crazy Train - Ozzy Osborne (not yet fully dead) <- Does not fit the theme
10. Rasberry Beret - Prince (4/21/2016)
11. Fight For Your Right - Beastie Boys (John Berry) (5/19/2016)
12. Back To The Island - Leon Russell (11/13/2016)

Theme: Artists who died in 2016, in order by death.

These deaths were surprisingly weighted towards the first of the year so that #10 Prince seemed like it should be out of order being a well known April death. The Pastor gave me pause when he said Prince died before Merle seeing I had Prince at #10 , but it is correct.

Kudos to those with the Beastie Boys knowledge and of MCA's death not being in 2016. John Berry's death, and his ties to the group and song are admittedly thin given he had left the group prior to that song's release. But he was a founding member and is credited with giving the group its name.

Scoring coming up soon.....

Scoring

Congrats to Esto for scoring a sweep of the songs.

Vandal: 12 [10 + image (2)]
T-Bone: 34 [17 + theme (3) + Out of Sequence (5) + Does not fit (5) + image (2) + 2 for the Popeye reference]
Frank: 19 ([2 + theme (3) + image (2) + 2 for Grandma's bird]
Elwood: 24 [9 + theme (3) + Out of Sequence (5) + Does not fit (5) + image (2)]
The Pastor: [36 (20 + theme (3) + Out of Sequence (5) + Does not fit (5) + image (2) + 1 for making me look]
LB: 18 [10 + LB (5) + image (2) + 1 for the second Popleye reference]
Melly: 24 [16 + theme (3) + Out of Sequence (5)]
Krox: 10 [10]
Mr. Kelly: 15 [11 + theme (3) + 1 for coming up with Keith Richards as he was my first choice for not belonging but I could find a song by him, that I knew, as a solo artist]
Esto: 39 [24 + theme (3) + Out of Sequence (5) + Does not fit (5) + image (2) ]

Thanks for playing. I think I may have scored 11 had I been playing (4 songs and then possibly the theme as the songs I would have known were by Frey, Wham!, Haggard, and Prince).

Doing this is tougher than it looks. Thanks for your efforts LB!

An effective anti-drug public service announcement would be to put Ozzy Osbourne on camera and ask him about, well, anything.

Not if it were Keith Richards asking the questions.
