Lyrically Speaking - 2/8/17

#1 Post by littleblueneon » Wed Feb 08, 2017 5:03 am

Yeah, it's me.... the rolling heap of rusted junk. I'm still hanging around, barely. So what if I'm polluting the city by draining quarts and quarts of oil everywhere? It's not like this town isn't a dump already with a water supply that tastes like ass. Someday soon I might finally be put out of my misery so I can cruise the Rainbow Racetrack like I did back in my younger and cuter days, but as long as LB continues to be a tightwad and keep having me put back together with duct tape and silly putty I'll never get taken to Dr. Kevorkian's crusher. That means I get to host more of these lameass LSWE games for your personal torture. I'm sorry.... I'm really very sorry. He makes me do this, honest...

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist, 3 points for the theme...

1. We stood on a beach at sunset
Do you remember when
I know a beach where, baby
A-it never ends

2. Hope you got your things together
Hope you are quite prepared to die
Looks like we're in for nasty weather
One eye is taken for an eye

3. Oooh ooooh ohhh
We're bigger than we ever dreamed
And I'm in love with being queen
Oooooh ooooh ohhhhh
Life is game without a care
We aren't caught up in your love affair

4. Now in the street there is violence
And a lots of work to be done
No place to hang out our washing
And I can't blame all on the sun

5. Waste time with a masterpiece, don't waste time with a masterpiece
You should be rolling with me, you should be rolling with me, ah
You're a real-life fantasy, you're a real-life fantasy
But you're moving so carefully; let's start living dangerously

6. You know that talk is cheap
And those rumors ain't nice
And when I fall asleep
I don't think I'll survive
The night, the night

7. I gave you love
I thought that we
Had made it to the top
I gave you all I had to give
Why did it have to stop

8. Well, his sister grew up
And she married a man
He gave her a son
Oh, yes, a lovely son

9. She tried to hide it by the
Faded denim clothes she wore
But I knew she'd never been
Inside a bar before

10. Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain

11. If your name is on the guest list
No one can take you higher
Everybody says I've got
Great balls of fire

12. Ooh, that talk of opportunities
TV breaks and movies
Rang true, sure rang true

"Bad Moon Rising" - Creedence Clearwater Revival

3. Oooh ooooh ohhh
We're bigger than we ever dreamed
And I'm in love with being queen
Oooooh ooooh ohhhhh
Life is game without a care
We aren't caught up in your love affair

"Royals" - Lorde

4. Now in the street there is violence
And a lots of work to be done
No place to hang out our washing
And I can't blame all on the sun

"Electric Avenue" - Eddy Grant

5. Waste time with a masterpiece, don't waste time with a masterpiece
You should be rolling with me, you should be rolling with me, ah
You're a real-life fantasy, you're a real-life fantasy
But you're moving so carefully; let's start living dangerously

"Cake By The Ocean" - DNCE

6. You know that talk is cheap
And those rumors ain't nice
And when I fall asleep
I don't think I'll survive
The night, the night

7. I gave you love
I thought that we
Had made it to the top
I gave you all I had to give
Why did it have to stop

8. Well, his sister grew up
And she married a man
He gave her a son
Oh, yes, a lovely son

9. She tried to hide it by the
Faded denim clothes she wore
But I knew she'd never been
Inside a bar before

10. Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain

11. If your name is on the guest list
No one can take you higher
Everybody says I've got
Great balls of fire

Theme? Fifty...er, twelve shades of blue? I think it is either that or words that are often seen with blue as their adjective.

"In The Navy" - Village People

Cake By The Ocean - DNCE (I originally picked this up from Mecca Radio and now my radio station plays it occasionally. It's a major earworm song...)

6. You know that talk is cheap
And those rumors ain't nice
And when I fall asleep
I don't think I'll survive
The night, the night
Dream Police - Cheap Trick

7. I gave you love
I thought that we

Sky High - Jigsaw

8. Well, his sister grew up
And she married a man
He gave her a son
Oh, yes, a lovely son
Lonely Boy - Andrew Gold (Inserted solely for frank's benefit, and he didn't let me down....)

9. She tried to hide it by the
Faded denim clothes she wore
But I knew she'd never been
Inside a bar before
Tight Fittin' Jeans - Conway Twitty (Despite my intention to use easier songs for my LSWE demographic this season, I always seem to end up using two or three country songs a week...)

10. Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain
Sad Songs (Say So Much) - Elton John

11. If your name is on the guest list
No one can take you higher
Everybody says I've got
Great balls of fire
Big Balls - AC/DC (Regular LSWE players have no excuse for ever missing this one...)

12. Ooh, that talk of opportunities
TV breaks and movies
Rang true, sure rang true
It Never Rains In Southern California - Albert Hammond

Theme? - Things that are or can be associated with the color BLUE! So much for my worries that the color actually being in the MM name would be a huge tip off. All references to the theme appeared in the song titles this time. Anyone who mentioned the word "blue" in their theme guess got full credit...

Image Bonus: Show me something that fits the theme...

Well, only 5 correct theme guesses didn't give me much to choose from (though I did give IB credit to a few images that accidentally hit on the blue theme). But frank's blue footed booby would have been hard to top anyway, so he'll take home the 5 point IBB.

JJC Points:

Nelly gets a JJC point for blue suede sneakers...

vandal gets a supermax for knowing how to get a supermax when he ain't got nothin'...

frank gets 3 JJC points for doling out life advice and for blue footed boobies...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for Mel Torme singing Sunshine Superman, which I actually like in the same way I like Paul Anka's cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit." It works, and better than the original!

elwood gets 2 JJC points for what may be the LSWE's first use of the strike key, and for finding x...

Sprots gets 2 JJC points for more shitty, watermarked stock photography, and for not being able to accuse me of nitpicking her anymore since I did accept the image for credit...

Esto gets 2 JJC points for a great but invalid Krox and for the official attendance of the 2017 LSWE...

Apparently I used too many difficult songs this game which probably helped keep the theme guesses down. That made the scoring feast or famine for everyone...
