Lyrcially Speaking - 1/27/17

#1 Post by Chronic Diarrhea » Fri Jan 27, 2017 4:55 am

Hello from the......... OOOOOOOooooooooooohhhhhhhh..... outhouse. Consider yourself lucky you didn't choose to dine at the restaurant where the fry cook forgot to wash his hands last night. I'm stuck in this stall without any reading material, and I dropped my phone down the pot, and........ (grunting)...... I have a feeling I'm going to be here all weekend. So go ahead and have fun playing today's LSWE game while I'm incapacitated.... it's themed around........ ugggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... around......... oh hell, does anyone have any Pepto Bismol?

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist....

Direct Hits:

1. The poor cook, he caught the fits
And threw away all my grits
And then he took and
He ate up all of my corn

2. Somebody said he came from New Orleans
Where he got in a fight over a Cajun Queen
And a crashing blow from a huge right hand
Sent a Louisiana fellow to the Promised Land

3. He freed a lot of people but it seems
The good, they die young
You know, I just looked around
And he's gone

4. Caught the early plane back to London
Fifty acorns tied in a sack
The men from the press saidwWe wish you success
It's good to have the both of you back

Hanging to the back:

5. And did you think this fool could never win
Well, look at me I'm coming back again
I got a taste of love in a simple way

6. Refried confusion is making itself clear
Wonder which way do I go
To get on out of here

7. Try to remember
The magic that we shared
In time your broken heart
Will mend

8. I`m sure you`ll understand my point of view
We know each other mentally
You gotta know that you`re bringing out
The animal in me

Hanging to the front:

9. Play the game, you know you can't quit until it's won
Soldier on, only you can do what must be done
You know in some way you're a lot like me
You're just a prisoner and you're trying to break free

10. There's a message in the wire, and I'm sending you this signal tonight
You don't know how desperate I've become and it looks like I'm losing this fight

11. When the work's all done and the sun's settin' low
I pull out my fiddle and I rosin up the bow
The kids are asleep so I keep it kinda low

12. Voices from nowhere
And voices from the larger towns
Filled our head full of dreams
And turned our world upside down

So fancy it doesn't stink:

13. Oh, the engineers used to
See him sitting in the shade
Strumming with the rhythm
That the drivers made

14. I try to understand because I'm people too
And playing games is part of human nature
My heart's in overdrive
It's great to be alive

15. (I'm in heaven) I get carried away
I dream of him and me
And how it's gonna be

16. Oh no Ma, Oh no Da,
I`ll be your golden boy
I will obey ev`ry golden rule

Silent deadlies:

17. Got himself a guitar
Used to play every night
Now he's in a rock and roll outfit
And everything's all right

18. All around in my home town
They're trying to track me down
They say they want
To bring me in guilty

19. Standing on the turnpike
Thumb out to hitchhike
Take me to New York right away

20. And he pulled the bow across the strings
And it made a evil hiss
And a band of demons joined in
And it sounded something like this

For 3 points.... what occasion did I post this LSWE game for today?

20. And he pulled the bow across the strings
And it made a evil hiss
And a band of demons joined in
And it sounded something like this
The Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels Band

My initial plan for this game was to have all songs that contained a "Johnny" somewhere in the lyrics (but not the title), but the lyrics site I rely on would only turn up the first 50 songs in alphabetical order for a lyrics search, and I couldn't manipulate it to get deeper in the alphabet to get enough common songs for the game. It sucks, because I've heard a few songs play over the weekend that I didn't initially have and winced at hearing the Johnny in them...

For 3 points.... what occasion did I post this LSWE game for today? - January 27th every year is Thomas Crapper Day, one of those infamous stupid holidays that has invaded pop culture. It isn't even his birthday or the anniversary of him inventing the flush toi..... er, ballcock... it's the anniversary of his death! Anyway, I gave theme credit to anyone who mentioned Thomas Crapper in any way. The rest of the answers got flushed...

Image Bonus: Show me something to celebrate this most special day.

It was a very hard decision between vandal and elwood... but the artwork matched the fake book title so perfectly, I had to give vandal the 5 point IBB.
