San Diego Chargers Officially Moving to LA

#1 Post by silverscreenselect » Thu Jan 12, 2017 11:02 am

Enough political threads.

The Chargers made it official today. They will play the 2017 season in Los Angeles (sort of). For the next two years, they will play in the 30,000 Stub Hub stadium in Carson, CA and then will move into a new stadium under construction that they will share with the Rams. If they could only share players with the Rams, between the two of them they might field a winning team.

If the good people of San Diego would have paid up to build a new stadium for their poor, billionaire owner this wouldn't have happened.

I understand that Spanos is paying the NFL a $650 million relocation fee. I wonder how much stadium that would have bought him in San Diego.

In any event, I believe that like most of Los Angeles, I'm greeting this news with a giant yawn. I'd bitch about the traffic generated by the additional games, but given the level of local interest in the Chargers I don't think that'll be much of an issue for the foreseeable future. --Bob

I need to find out if Stub Hub Stadium has enough open dates to squeeze in 81 games a piece for the A's and Rays. Or heck, maybe we can schedule some intersport games against the Chargers. Damn, now there's an idea I wish I'd have thought of while I was still Commish For Life...

Gee, what a creative logo. It must have taken the designer months to work it out.

After the relocation fee, he only had a few bucks left to spend on a logo.

I haven't believed a word goodell says since bountygate. OTOH-I feel terrible for the loyal SD fans who just lost a team that they loved. That would really suck.

A friend of mine has been a season ticket holder since he moved to San Diego around (year) 2000. He's not happy about this.

I wasn't a season ticket holder for the Rams when they were here, but I did go to 2 or 3 games a year. I will never pay for a Rams ticket again, even if they end up in Anaheim again someday.

I agree with Lilclyde.

My cousin lives less than two hours from San Diego and was a huge Chargers fan, going every time she and her husband could; also if they could get tickets. She will never go to an LA Chargers game.
