The Boney 500: Songs 88 and 87

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Tue Oct 25, 2016 8:38 am

88. REBEL REBEL-DAVID BOWIE (1974)
Album: Diamond Dogs

I read a comment from someone who said that the guitar riff that drives this songs sounded like something Keith Richards would
play. It's not Keef, of course... Bowie himself is playing it, but the commenter was right. It had never crossed my mind before, but the type of
controlled recklessness that is the hallmark of so many Stones classics is in evidence here. Good stuff in any event, and the
last great song of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust period.

87. THE RAIN, THE PARK & OTHER THINGS-THE COWSILLS (1967)
Album: The Cowsills

This song is so darn sweet! Such a happy sounding tune, even though an inspection ot the lyrics reveals an ending that is
not so happily ever after (the "flower girl" of the singer's affection either took off on him after their brief encounter, or
was actually a figment of his imagination!). Still, it's hard not to break out into a big ol' goofy grin when this plays.
If you don't like this, you probably don't like puppies and rainbows and stuff like that. And hey, those harmonies are pretty
nice..I think the vocal arrangement is tremendously underrated. Anyway, call it a guilty pleasure if you must...except that I'm
not the least bit guilty about it.

I remember hearing that "The Partridge Family" was based on the Cowsills.

The Cowsills song quite often gets played over vintage late 60s news footage because it is the quintessential sound of the era. The ultimate hippie chick song. Love it.

Agreed.
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.
~~ Thomas Jefferson

War is where the government tells you who the bad guy is.
Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.
