The Boney 500: Songs 100 and 99

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Mon Oct 17, 2016 9:31 am

As we enter the Top 100, we kick off with a pair of pretty familiar tunes:

100. PEG-STEELY DAN (1977)
Album: Aja

The Dan brought a touch of class to the Top 40 with this number. Two things stand out for me
on this one: Michael McDonald's creative background vocals, and especially the killer bass
line by Chuck Rainey. Often when I listen to this I focus entirely on that bass guitar. Sooooo
tasty!

99. LISTEN TO THE MUSIC-THE DOOBIE BROTHERS (1972)
Album: Toulouse Street

"What the people need is a way to make them smile" goes a line in this song. Mission accomplished.
This is the definition of a feel-good anthem. A sure fire sing along. Just try to resist it at the
end, when you have your choice of parts to harmonize with: one of the "whoa-oh, listen to the music"
voices...or maybe get a little daring and join in with the background voices singing "won't you listen
to the music, won't you listen to the music playing". A must for any road trip.
