The Boney 500: Songs 108 and 107

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Tue Oct 11, 2016 11:59 am

Back to the early 70's for both of today's songs:

108. HOUSE AT POOH CORNER-KENNY LOGGINS WITH JIM MESSINA (1971)
Album: Sittin' In

I always liked this song, but after I learned its origin, I liked it even more. Loggins wrote it when he was 17. I'll let him tell the story:

"Well, (I was) going on graduation in high school, and for some reason, I was thinking about that last chapter in "The
House at Pooh Corner." It was the first book I ever read. The last chapter is where Christopher Robin is leaving the
Hundred Acre Wood, and he's telling everybody goodbye. I felt like that was akin to what I was going through in high
school. Some part of me knew that I was leaving my childhood behind. I didn't really think it through like that.
It just sort of came through".

Years later he added a verse to the song in which he sees the world of childhood again through the
eyes of his child, renaming it "Return To Pooh Corner". Misty-eyed stuff to be sure.

107. I SAW THE LIGHT-TODD RUNDGREN (1972)
Album: Something/Anything

Todd plays and sings everything on this song, a tremendous pop record that makes my ears smile..
