The Boney 500: Songs 138 and 137

#1 Post by T_Bone0806 » Tue Sep 20, 2016 11:07 am

Believe it or not, BOTH of today's song entries come from this millennium!!

of course they are STILL 13 and 15 years old respectively

138. 100 YEARS-FIVE FOR FIGHTING (2003)
Album: The Battle For Everything

Sheesh...this is the very definition of bittersweet for me. The melody is wistful, dreamy, almost childlike.
The lyrics, examining how inevitably quick the years of your life pass...scare the bejeebers out of me. Still, one
heck of a beautiful song.

137. SING-TRAVIS (2001)
Album: The Invisible Band

Quite possibly the most effective use of a banjo in a non-country music song. A melancholy but gorgeous melody backing
lyrics about the healing powers of lifting up one's voice. Glen Campbell did a very nice cover of this on his album
"Meet Glen Campbell" that is also worth checking out.

I don't think this song would get a Beasty nod if I extended my countdown to 1,000,000 songs. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe how much I loathe it....

100 Years is to this generation what Sinatra's It Was a Very Good Year was to another. I'll bet LB doesn't like that one, either.
